I'm not sure that I support the idea of marriage at all, but I fully believe that people should be able to marry whomever they please, provided everyone consents. I don't care what sex or gender they are, or how many of them they are. Not my marriage. I don't care. If it's not hurting anybody, I've got no problem with it.

As a legal matter I'm in favor of same sex marriage as an equal protection issue.

I'm not understanding how there is an establishment issue. There are numerous laws that are wholly or largely based on religious reasons. Laws against bigamy, polygamy and incest come to mind.

Again I'm for same sex marriage. I just don't believe it has any church/state issues.

Definitely 110% for it. It's not right to deny people their rights. Everyone should have the right to enter into a contract with another person (or persons?) whom they care for that grants them legal and taxation benefits. No matter what. ... more

I think this principle is a bit far reaching as it would have implications on labor, wage, and consumer regulations to name just a few.

I feel like the queer rights movement shouldn't be as focused on marriage as it is when people are being murdered because of their sexual orientation and gender identity. People are losing their jobs, their homes. People are committing suicide. I feel like the strong focus on "marriage equality" is a distraction from things that matter so much more. And "marriage equality" would still only grant rights to couples that fit as closely as possible to the heteronormative idea of "family values"...whatever that means.

Personally, I think the government should stay out of our relationships and out of our bedrooms and that queers need to stay radical and continue to fight for true equality.

People who want to be married shouldn't be restricted by law. It should be their decision gay or straight.

Yep. The most recent rulings by federal courts have been in favor of marriage equality, based on the Equal Protection clause of the 14th Amendment. And I believe the rulings were correct.

I don't think it is anyone's business but the person getting married. It actually really gets on my nerves when people say they are against it for religious reasons. That doesn't make any sense. If your religion outlaws homosexuality then don't practice homosexuality. It is not your place to force others to live by your religious laws. I know more than a few Christians who would have a fit if Muslims or Jewish people made a move to legally outlaw bacon. It is no different to me. If your religion doesn't let you eat bacon, don't eat bacon, but don't ruin it for the rest of us. If your religion doesn't let you be a homosexual, don't have gay sex, but don't ruin it for everyone else.

there is a reason we try to keep church and state separate.

you can get married in a church, but that does not make it legal.

you can get married by a state official, but that does not make it recognized by a religious institution.

atheists can and do get married. but for some reason religious nut cases are not fighting against their right to get married.

im just going to stop here. im getting too worked up. long story short, gay marriage should be legal. it is ridiculous that there is even a debate over this.

Conservatives that believe in traditional family values and believe children should have two parents SHOULD be PRO-gay marriage. Hello!!

I'm all for it. I actually can't wait until my state passes the law that says gays can married. I would love it if my two gay friends (who are together) get married rather soon. I think it's a wonderful thing. Like I seem to be saying a hell lot more: Love never came with a age, gender, sexuality, race, why give it one?

To me, being against same sex marriage is like believing the world is flat. It's illogical, nonsensical, unarguable, and completely out of touch with modern society.

I support it. I think we'll look back on all this opposition and look down on the lack of acceptance and compassion so many people have been showing.
