My goodness, the new editors are eager and stalking the Tasks page. I've gone in 3 times in the last two days and there are never tasks, but reviews are being cranked out.

Well I'm a new editor and I have yet to see one review available for the taking. I can't sit on my PC all day hitting refresh. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad to have the opportunity to be an editor, but I'm not aiming to do as many as I can get my hands on either.

There was a backlog of reviews just prior to the switch. If the number of daily submissions has not suddenly decreased (I can't imagine why since it was pretty steady beforehand), then I can only guess that there are too many editors currently.

If it becomes an issue, EF may decrease the number of allowable edits daily to accommodate as they did previously.

That was kind of my point. As can probably be detected by my highly decreased activity on the forum, I don't have as much time to sit around. I'm in athletic training, trying to be a more diligent housekeeper, and I have other things that take my priorities. Those few times I've been into the market to check on tasks have been on some down time, or trying to get things done while doing other things. (i.e., just wearing my skates in the house to accommodate my body legs to their weight) I was just so surprised when I continue to see reviews being edited and published and nothing in the market. I figure that these eager beavers (heh, I said beavers) will be less eager in a week or two and there will be more tasks available.

Anytime new editors are added they tend to snap up tasks quickly. After the novelty of editing wears off, they tend to slow down. I know I did. When I first became an editor, I'd watch the task market all day every day and snatch up reviews to edit as soon as they appeared.

By the end of my term as editor, I had slowed down quite a bit, and was not doing my full 3 reviews per day. I would still edit any followup reviews which appeared (because they take so little time usually) but I would only do one or two full reviews per day, and in the last few weeks I was mostly doing the 250 point ones (the non-extended reviews) because they take less time. Of course, part of that is that I'm always busy in August/September (because I work for a school, and getting ready for the new school year makes my life super busy) but there was certainly a bit of editor burnout as well.
I loved editing reviews, though—I'm a bit of a grammar geek—and will certainly be reapplying for the next round. But a bit of a break will probably lead to me snatching up reviews again once I'm back on the list of editors.

Maybe this is the way it goes. I was hyped for it yesterday afternoon, though. I should have grabbed one then. I'm very very green, obviously.

Also, I applied to be an editor a month or so ago and it still says, waiting to be approved. Would I have to reapply? The idea of having to constantly reapply with the new system being talked about might be a pain, especially if you have to explain over and over again why you want to be an editor when you have before. Also, as much as I want to be an editor, I feel bad for those people that have been editors for a while now and have worked hard at it. I wish there was a better way.

If it says waiting to be approved, then you're on file. Previous editors are also on file, although reapplying just lets us know that they're interested in doing it again. As long as you have an application in, you don't need to reapply. Since we're doing rotations, the applications won't be accepted or denied within 72 hours, as I believe it currently says.

Finally got a couple to edit! I've worked out and had no practice today so I had some time to check back periodically.

Again, with these reviews there is NO WAY to know if and when a review was re-edited to correct any errors that may have initially resulted in a "good" or "poor" vote. I found this out first hand yesterday. I voted according to what I saw before my eyes, informed the editor why I voted the way I did, and fortunately the editor was able to go back and make the corrections. So really, we can't assume anyone is downvoting for fun. Most of the active contributors who take EF seriously don't, at least that I've noticed.

As others have said, I don't vote on the editors because I don't know what they've done, and I don't know if any mistakes I see were made pre or post editorially. I don't really know what a good solution for judging editors work would be, but I do think all reviewers should have the option to send their work to an editor if they want. I know the posts I've seen with the most mistakes have been ones that auto-published.
I still think if demand for the job is this high, that points offered should be reduced. I know everyone says they want to do it for the good of the community and all of that, but do you really think people would be this much in arms about it if it was a volunteer job?

I don't see it as a job. I see it as another way to contribute to the community and to improve the quality of the reviews. Although the perks are nice (extra points to use toward products) it doesn't "pay" enough for me to stress about getting enough reviews to edit or not. I'll do what I can when I have the opportunity to do one. I have my hands full with students reviews as it is.

I really like this idea, because I feel like the editors that are chosen for each rotation will work hard to do a great job until their time is up. So many times, I've published a review and wished for feedback but gotten none. I've even gone back and caught my own spelling or grammar mistakes that the editor overlooked.
It seems like now they will be more on their toes, and apt to do a better job. Plus, there's the added bonus of letting everyone else have a turn. My request has been waiting for approval for quite some time!

Just for clarification, it's not part of the editor's job to provide the reviewer any feedback. That would be the function of a mentor.

I meant as far as checking my mistakes go. My bad. I feel like if I go back and read what I wrote later and find spelling errors, the editor should have caught them.

How many editors are there now? I'm having a really hard time even finding anything to edit. 99.9% of the time there's nothing.

I am not an editor now, and haven't been in the past, but I think this is a nice idea so that everyone has a chance to participate. I do understand how the more established members may find it a bit annoying though, especially if they have been editing forever... but I think change is good, and since the established reviewers can reapply to review again, it's not that bad : )

I'm not sure if this is helpful to the editors but I went to the review page and on the right hand side where the newest reviews are (there are thirty of them) only six needed editors, the rest are auto published because of their ranking. maybe more advanced ranked users are submitting reviews rather than those who need editors? I dunno, just a thought

And also when there's a lot of new editors everybody's jumping at new tasks. I know it sucks for those of you who haven't managed to get a review to edit yet, but it does tend to slow down after a few weeks. I mean there were about the same number of editors when the program first started I believe, and towards the end how many times did people say "why is my review sitting here for ages when there are editors who are supposed to proof and publish it?"? lol

I think this sounds fair. Gives everyone a chance. And, I'm sure, by the time you've reached a rank good enough to apply to be an editor, there's no need to take a test. Smart idea EF! I'm all for it!
