it will be completely awesome when/if i get the chance to edit. my english major skills want to clean up every review they can!

Well getting an email kicking me out of the editing programme was a bit of a smack in the face - I don't read forums much, so I had no idea what was up. Glad this thread was easy enough to find, and it all makes sense now. I support the rotations idea - giving others a crack at it makes sense. Heck, I haven't done any in like two months, so its probably prudent for someone more keen to have my spot anyways!
Perhaps a heads up/explanation email to those in the editing programme would have been in order, however (?)

Sorry about that - I had hoped to keep the thread bumped more so everyone would see it (the announcement section will help with threads like this now), but an email would have been good as well to make sure all of you were aware.

I, for one, am very excited for this. I think it gives more people a chance to participate more on Eden. Sorry I'm jumping in here kind of late, I totally missed this thread somehow until Kindred pointed me torwards it. Aah!

I just want to say congratulations to the new editors. I think it's a great idea giving everyone a chance. I am also giggling a little bit...wait until ya'll see some of these reviews. Also I too would like to know when we reapply and are the rotations every three months. I remember reading that might be it.
Again congrats to the ones who made it this time!

To answer the question about the rotation time frame: Again, Sammi is the best person to contact directly about all Editor Program related things, however I'm being told that the current rotations will last approximately three months.
09/14/2011
So the new editors have been chosen? Dang, guess I didn't get in this time lol.. Thanks for updating us!

In short, the way I feel about it is as follows: if an editor is doing their job appropriately, consistently, and in a timely fashion, there is no real reason for them to be "fired," so to speak. If an editor is not doing their job to the standards set, they should be relived of their duty so another can take their place. less

AGREED. I totally feel that editors who are doing a poor job should be let go. Those of us who are active, accurate and consistently doing a good job should stay. Whoever is next in line could get a chance -- a trial period, maybe. Everyone would have to just wait in line like the rest of us did.

I'm NOT saying that Alan & I are doing a good job or a bad job, but it seems odd for a company to fire the people who *are* doing a good job just to let others have their positions. Wouldn't it be better to fire the ones who *weren't* doing a good or who went for long periods of time without doing their job at all? There are some editors who have posted here before me that have consistently done awesome work, and it seems a shame to lose them in favor of somebody who might not do as well.
And I too am a little concerned over how the choosing of the "next round" of editors will be kept fair? If they're selected by current editors, then people will pick others from their own circles and we'll still wind up with the same editors over and over again. Even choosing them based on test scores might get sticky, because what if there are 20 openings and 100 people pass? less

BTW there are quite a few poor editors-- and I'm not afraid to rate their editing as poor, either)

The thing is, I've read complaints on the forums many times about editors who weren't doing a good job, so my point was that openings could be made regularly by culling the herd, so to speak. Tossing out editors like S.S. who are doing great and bringing in someone else might result in even more poorly edited works being published. And for that matter, even if you ("you" in general, NOT you personally) are qualified to apply for a job somewhere and they have no openings, does it seem reasonable for them to toss someone out just so you can get in?
That might sound extreme depending on your angle, but make no mistake; editing is a job, and it effects the quality of the information on this site so Alan & I have always taken it very seriously. We were under the impression when we started that it was an "until you screw up" position, so this has come as more than a surprise, and we've been here long enough to care about more than the points that it earns you (again, I'm using "you" as general term).
It doesn't really matter, what's done is done, but that's just my 2 cents worth on it. less

Personally, I would have preferred modifications being made to the program without changing it to a rotation method.

While everyone is looking at this thread on EdenTasks:
If you check out a review and are redirected to your own assignments, let me know.
This usually happens when a reviewer submits a not-assigned review as a student and then gets advanced. It can also happen when someone submits a review and then deletes their account.
THANKS!

It's not always as obvious as color/colour. I doubt anyone who isn't an expert could correctly identify which words get a double l in American English and not UK English, and which get the double l in UK English, but not American. It's perfectly possible for the editor to correct something in good faith.

As for the rotation period and demand for editors - normally when supply is higher than demand in the job market, you would have more stringent requirements for the job, and pay less to do it. I know this isn't exactly analogous, but wouldn't it make sense to pay fewer points per editing job and have higher requirements to get in?
(I am speaking as someone who has no idea what goes into the job, and is unlikely to consider applying any time soon - take my opinion for what it's worth.)

And I'm fine with the rotation. Have fun with the editing new editors

Ok, hopefully I get everything answered, but if not, please let me know. Also, as many of you know, I am only on the forums at night, very little if at all during the day, so patience if it takes me a bit to get back to you .
With the way this is set up, reapplying doesn't mean that you're starting from scratch - it means you're interested in being in an upcoming rotation for editing. Some of you who have been editors may not want to edit again, so reapplying just lets us know that you're interested. You can reapply at any time - you can either wait a bit or reapply right away.
The EdenTasks program is still evolving, so it's always possible that things may change, and we do appreciate your suggestions as we go, so keep them coming and we'll take them under consideration.
If you find reviews that appear to be badly edited, please let one of us know, and rate the review as you see it. If an editor is not doing a good job, we need to know.
I am not sure if that covered anything, but let me know if it doesn't or if you have other questions

Some readers will notice errors, especially obvious ones. Other readers aren't really going to be paying that much attention. I rated one the other day that had (and may still) 3 obvious errors of it's vs its and one other... Yet it still received 2 excellents and 2 lower ratings. I just think the whole rating the editors is silly. Keep the good ones, get rid of the bad and toss the whole rating thing at some point (if that is what is used to determine the good editors from the less than stellar ones).
