Did anyone talk to you/explain anything about sex toys?

My mom actually bought me my first vibrator/dildo. I had trouble with vaginismus so it was as much for practical reasons (being able to get a proper gynecology exam) as anything else. (Vaginismus is basically a condition that causes the vagina to 'clamp shut' when all or specific types of penetration are attempted.)

My family is very open about sexuality. Maybe too open. I was aware of my mom and her BF's BDSM-type business from a very young age. I've found the openness very helpful, though. When I did start having sex, I had easy access to birth control pills and condoms. I was made aware of the potential consequences of unprotected sex. I think that is very important.

I learned a lot about sex (anatomy, diseases, etc.) from my Mom, a nurse; but in all the talks we ever had about sex she never once talked to me about toys and the role they can play in learning your body and what works for you. I plan to change ... more
it seems as if this should be part of sex edu

Nobody spoke to me about sex, let alone toys. I learned all on my own, more so in recent years than ever before.

My parents didn't teach me anything. Sex was evil and something to be avoided until marriage at all costs. I learned everything from books and Eden.

I learned about sex and toys from the guys I was with. My family wouldn't speak about it because for some reason sex was a taboo subject. How did I feel about the experience.. Like any experience in life: it depends on how it is presented to you. I have had a few bad experiences in my life and I've learned from them.

My friends and I are about as open as we can get with each other so we talked about sex toys together. A lot of learning was trial and error but it was fun to have someone to bounce success/failure stories off of.

I learned everything through a combo of trial and error, and reading up on the internet. Now, even though I'm far from an expert, I give my friends advice on them.

No way! My mother could barely tell me why I was getting my period; she got me a library book to explain it instead. I found out on my own, which is fine. I like doing my own research.

I think the first time I ever saw or heard of a sex toy was on some late-night talk show with Sue Johanson as one of the guest stars. She brought a rabbit vibe out to show the host and explained how it worked. So that was the start of my toy education... when I was like 11 or 12.

Didn't think much about it until years later, and pretty much all my sex toy knowledge was gained online, much of it from here on Eden.
