There's no way. My health is more important than any amount of money.
Would you knowingly contract herpes for 20mil dollars?

It would be tempting, but I'd probably say no. Too many other health problems as it is.

I'm confused by your post. Are you asking the title question, would we accept $20 million in order to be infected with the herpes virus? Or are you asking what we think about the $20 million lawsuit against an actor for having supposedly been infected with herpes?

I'm leaning towards no, but it is a lot of money and you could use it towards treatment like other people have said. I wouldn't completely dismiss it.

If I were on the verge of starvation or homelessness, sure. Otherwise, $20 million isn't worth it.

I would think the point of having lots of money is so that you can enjoy life even more, but I would enjoy life considerably less if my genitals broke out in sores from time to time, so no, no I would not.

I honestly would. With healthy immune system (not hard to achieve with 20 mil) herpes stays in a latent form and does not cause any problems. I had a cold sore just twice in my life, which means I do have herpes virus(non-genital). In fact a lot of the people do have it, without realizing that a cold sore is herpes as well.

No way

No thanks.

Well I wouldn't in this situation but if it was for science or something, hell yea. It's not like herpes is REALLY that bad, I mean yea, it's case to case but some people don't even have break outs except like once a year so. And it will definitely be curable someday. Not to mention, the only person I am having sex with is my husband and 20mil would do amazing things for our life hahaha. We are poor as poor gets.

Do I have to pay the taxes on that 20mil?
Being someone who has been broke as hell before: Yeah I would. I could afford good herpes medicine and whatever the hell else I wanted. Always be able to pay rent on time and never worry about anything. If it was AIDS I wouldn't do it but a lot of people get herpes unknowingly for free so why not get it knowingly to be a millionaire. And yeah, you could find some gold diggers to have sex with you. Or regular people. Guess what, regular people with herpes have partners sometimes too! Show me the money!
People in a higher social class would probably say hell no! They're already well off as it is. People who have had to deal with living in poverty and homelessness in their lives are probably much more inclined to say yes. I think it boils down to that. If you've always been well-fed with a good roof over your head and such, why would you want to get more money for that? If you don't have a lot then it's not a big trade-off. Not to mention most of those people don't have access to affordable healthcare in the US.

Probably. I'd definitely consider it.

@SourAppleMartini, bikenotes, and sunflower (I almost types that "sinflower", heh): Exactly.
I think there's a big stigma around herpes simply because it can be transmitted via sex. However, for most people, it's really kind of like asking if they'd accept having mild to moderate acne or in-grown hairs, anywhere from a few times a year to once every few years, in exchange for twenty million dollars. "But herpes is a virus that never goes away!" Yes, and so is chicken pox, which is a related virus. Hell, for me, acne is like a virus that never goes away--it's stuck with me for about 26 years now--and I tell you, I would rather have $20 million than perfect skin.

All you people who have ever had a cold sore and regularly kiss and engage in unprotected oral sex, guess what?! You already have the virus both places!
Just based on statistics and the info and links that have been posted above, most of us in this thread ALREADY have herpes. That fits with the statistics that only 10 to 20% of the people who have it even know they have it. Most of us have it and don't realize it.
I got some ugly cold sores a few months ago, and yeah, I was upset cuz I thought I was clean and I thought it would make dating difficult. Turns out my first serious boyfriend, who was even a virgin at the time, had had cold sores previously But I don't think its going to be too bad dating-wise, just ask people if they already have the cold sore virus (less scary wording than "herpes") and whether they mind getting it.
I think the chance of getting genital outbreaks depends much more on your susceptibility to them than on how often you've been exposed, since most of us have been exposed many, many times and few people have symptoms.
