I don't think I could ever do it.
Would you knowingly contract herpes for 20mil dollars?
10/27/2011
Honestly, as paranoid as I am about STD's, I would consider it. $20 million is an awful lot of money, and it would last the rest of my life, since I'm not really a spree buyer. I would budget carefully (including cutting edge treatments to manage), and could use the money to do some good. I could pay off the very nice house I live in (it's plenty big enough for my needs, and I don't want to move to California or New York), put myself through grad school and get my doctorate, and care for my father in his old age. If I never have kids of my own, I can pass on a nice nest egg to my nieces and nephews. Hell, with $20 million, I could start a non-profit dedicated to STI prevention and cure research.
Then again, I'm guessing if this person does get $20 million, they're not going to spend it on practical things. That's the main problem when people come into large sums of money... they waste most of it on stupid things that they didn't need, and act like it's an infinite resource. No working, no investing, no planning ahead at all. Just spending.

Twenty Million dollars? For a condition that causes no permanent damage, is treatable with easily obtained medication, usually burns itself out within 15 years or less of contracting it (most people who have herpes don't even get outbreaks after a while] and at best is a nuisance? Sure.
I'm a nurse and I'd say yes.
In this economy, there's a lot of stuff I'd do I wouldn't have thought about even 10 or 12 years ago.
Herpes isn't that big of a deal. Really. $20 million dollars could set up my children for a good life, pay off my house, and not have to worry about ending up ever homeless or not being able to afford food or medicine.
NOBODY is going to pay someone to get a disease (unless you volunteer for some illegal medical experiment) but if it could happen, herpes is one of the least troubling of medical conditions.
Not to mention that more than 80% of the population has some form of herpes by the age of 50 or so. Chances are you're going to get it anyway, most doctors don't even distinguishes between "Type 1" and "Type 2" anymore, because they are so intertwined and only serve to make people who get cold sores on their mouths think they are somehow superior to people who occasionally have a genital out break of the exact same condition.
Herpes is really a non-issue. less

And totally agreed on every last word here!

I probably would. 20 million? Get real.
I would think on a website dedicated basically to sex that there would be a little more awareness about sexually transmitted diseases and what they actually entail.
A very large portion of the population has some form of herpes. Most people show no symptoms or have very mild symptoms, only having one initial outbreak.
Additionally, you can get it from simply kissing another person while the virus is shedding, which doesn't necessarily have to happen during an outbreak.
As far as non-curable sexually transmitted infections go, herpes is pretty low on severity list. It's also fairly treatable.
So, yeah. When you get over the whole puritanical "ew it can be transmitted by sex, repent!" factor, 20 million sounds like it might be doable.

I really don't think so, no. It may not be fatal or anything, but I just don't think I could deal with it, even for that money. Some sort of rash elsewhere on my body, sure, but the genitals? No. I'd rather keep my parts as healthy as possible.
11/02/2011
I would. If my husband was okay with it but I'm sure he would be as we are super broke. My sister has it and is doing fine. 2 painful flareups in the past 10 years. She dated a handful of guys and told them and they were fine with it and she is now married.

I don't believe the whole "I have no diseases" thing unless I see it in writing. Especially when it comes to A-list actors who are probably getting around a lot. Hah.
The 20 mil is awful tempting and I'd be willing to do a lot of odd things for it at the moment, but this isn't one of them. Regardless of whether or not I had a lot of symptoms myself, I'd feel wrong about purposefully getting a disease that I could pass on to others. And I've got enough health issues to deal with already.

Glad I don't have to type it all out! Being a nurse, I've seen waaaaaaay worse than herpes, I'd take the herpes and my $20 million happily!
12/09/2011
Yea, I would actually. Herpes isn't that big of a deal and 20 mil. would change everything.

You can never get rid of herpes. No, thank you. If it was a curable STD, MAYBE. But that's a very big maybe.
12/23/2011
i'm so scared of stds in general.

20 million dollars? i'd deal with the breakouts in my brand new fucking infinity pool with a 24 hour staff of cabana-people.

As someone who has seen genital warts lasered off in surgery and smelled the nasty burning flesh of it HELL NO! That would be so gross to me and even on meds/ or not being in the middle of an outbreak, you can pass it to others.

um, genital warts isn't a symptom of herpes? lol that's a form of another virus, not herpes. You get cold sores, which do not get lasered off; instead, patients take an antibiotic and the sores disappear after a week or so.

If said actor can prove they don't have herpes then they are in the clear.

Yes. Definitely. Herpes A is oral herpes. Most anyone whose had a cold sore has herpes. For 20 million I'll take a stress related outbreak once in a while, not that I'd have anything to really stress about because I'd have 20 million to spend.
