20 million dollars won't last you the rest of your life like the herpes will.
Would you knowingly contract herpes for 20mil dollars?
06/09/2011
No! Hell no! Absolutely-freakin'-no t! I know herpes may not be so extreme in some cases and many people don't see herpes as an STD, but they are! I would NOT do it! No amount of money is worth my body being damaged in any way, especially with any sort of STD! Someone would have to be seriously and damagingly money hungry to do that!
06/25/2011
No! I could never knowingly intentionally give myself an STD, even for money.
06/25/2011
no, i will pick my health over 20 mill. i'd rather be poor and healthy rather than sick and rich
06/25/2011
Hell no! That's a nasty viral infection and will NEVER go away. Absolutely not!
06/26/2011
Hell no.
07/18/2011
I'd certainly be tempted, but no.
07/19/2011
No way

In this economy, there's a lot of stuff I'd do I wouldn't have thought about even 10 or 12 years ago.
Herpes isn't that big of a deal. Really. $20 million dollars could set up my children for a good life, pay off my house, and not have to worry about ending up ever homeless or not being able to afford food or medicine.
NOBODY is going to pay someone to get a disease (unless you volunteer for some illegal medical experiment) but if it could happen, herpes is one of the least troubling of medical conditions.
Not to mention that more than 80% of the population has some form of herpes by the age of 50 or so. Chances are you're going to get it anyway, most doctors don't even distinguishes between "Type 1" and "Type 2" anymore, because they are so intertwined and only serve to make people who get cold sores on their mouths think they are somehow superior to people who occasionally have a genital out break of the exact same condition.
Herpes is really a non-issue.

Or broke, and have real life kids to worry about and support and realize the actual medical facts behind what others knee jerk react out of context fear reaction to a non-issue.
But, it really isn't an option. So who cares? And, yeah, I could make 20 mil last the rest of my life. Who couldn't?

I have a friend that has herpes. And that's why she's just my friend. I would never date her for that reason. I love her, but I don't even want the risk of it. She has trouble dating because no one wants it.
So would I sacrifice my health for a minor skin rash for that much money? I'd consider it.
Would I sacrifice my happiness because many people I may want to have sex with and a relationship with would reject me? No.

The problem is, you are looking at maybe somewhere between 2% and at most 10-20% of the population, tops, who doesn't have some form of herpes (and it really doesn't matter what form you have, it's all basically the same.) 90% of the population has some form of herpes. link This study found NINETY EIGHT percent of the adult population was shedding herpes virus. That's basically everybody. few of them knew it. link

Add that to the fact that of those who do shed the virus, more than 80% don't realize they have it, you are looking at... a non-issue.
Of the "many people" who would refuse to have sex with you, 80-90% of them already HAVE the virus. Like I said, it's a non-issue.
And, who is going to pay you to get a virus (that most have for free anyway) in the first place?
07/19/2011
Yeah, I'll pass. Besides, you are much more likely to die, if you get a windfall of cash... link

I would happily kiss someone with herpes for 20 million! Although I guess I can't knowingly "contract" it since I already have herpes simplex (cold sores courtesy of my mom!) and always will have the virus in my system. It's no big deal.

No, no, FUCK NO.
The money would definitely help pay off school loans and the such, but I respect myself enough to not get herpes just for some moola.

That's a hell of a lot of money, and there are plenty of worse STIs.... but my gut still says no. But 20 mil...
09/20/2011
Depends on the type of herpes. As gross as they are, cold sore herpes is worth $20 million.
09/27/2011
i'd be tempted but in all honesty... i myself am happier when i'm poorer.
and always happier STD.less. which, knock on wood, i've always been. (though i've definitely not always been careful.)

I dont care if its not permanent, I would not cheat on my hubby.
09/29/2011
I contracted herpes for free... but seriously, it's not as bad as it seems. If you take care of yourself and take meds daily, the chances of having flare ups dimishes greatly. As time goes on, flare ups reduce incredibly both in frequency and pain; lots of people will go without years with them.
and btw, for those that think that you'll pass it on to your partner automatically, you won't. It's next to impossible to pass it if your taking retro virals + not having sex during outbreaks.
it's possible to be happy with an STD, the problem is our culture tend to view people with STDS as just people with STDs and not people; it's kind of fucked up.
and for twenty million? why not? i need to pay bills anyway.

If someone walked up to me and said "I want to give you two things. Herpes and 20mil", I can't say I wouldn't stop and think about this one.
I mean, I'm basing this on the situation, that we're talking genital herpes, here. Flare-ups and the possibility of giving it to your partner, it doesn't sound all that bad if you ask me. And on medication, I'm telling you, I can't say that I'd turn it down...
