Recently in the news in some random Midwest McDonald's, a woman who was breastfeeding was asked to leave. The lady doth protest too much and proceeded to find other breastfeeding mothers and have a...tit-in? They all gathered at Mickey D's and whipped their ta-tas out to feed their breed. So I'm curious: when you see a woman breastfeed in public, what is your reaction? Do you think it's wonderful and natural? Do you instantly want to yell "PUT THAT AWAY!"? Or maybe you just don't care?

My opinion: it disgusts me. Just because you have a baby, it doesn't mean you get some sacred right to expose yourself in public to feed them, especially in a restaurant. I also don't intend on breastfeeding my child, if and when I have one. And please understand, I am not trying to imply any ill will towards any woman who choose to do this. I realize we have to freedom to do this, and I am just looking for your opinion.

#1- I tried nursing; hated it! But during my short attempt, I covered myself discreetly so no one could see my tits or the baby sucking. I've seen most other nursing mothers do the same.

Now if all these woman were exposing breasts intentionally, I could see that as a distraction to other diners, but I think they have every right to feed their babies where ever they are out eating. It's natural, it's not illegal. It just happens to make some people incredibly uncomfortable, and it shouldn't really. Kids gotta eat!

None of my babies WANTED to breastfeed and my first physically couldn't but I so did while I was trying. I used a blanket to shield the baby.

Eh....I really would rather not see it. It becomes an awkward situation of wanting to stare but trying really hard to turn away. I wish women's restrooms had a 'powder room' so women could sit and beastfeed in comfort.

When the mothers try to cover the baby and their booby, I appreciate that and applaud their discretion, but I have seen some mothers just take their whole boob out, flop it out and let the baby on it. That is too much for me!

Seeing a woman feed her child disgusts you?

And actually, having a child does give a mother the sacred right to feed that child as was intended by nature. There is nothing disgusting about it.

As long it is done with some discretion I am fine with it. In the case were they just whip it out in a restaurant, no. Although I have never seen it done that way.

I have no issue with breastfeeding in public, and it doesn't personally offend me, but I do think that unless there's a specific reason not to, there's no harm in using a blanket to try and cover up a little since there may be people around that are more conservative than you are. There are always people who are going to be offended and start something, so if a little piece of cloth can avoid that, get the baby fed, and keep everyone at peace, I see no harm in it.

I see absolutely nothing wrong with it.
I did it with both of mine, and would do it discreetly when possible, but there were times when I didn't or couldn't.

It doesn't bother me to see women breastfeeding in public, whether they choose to cover themselves and the baby or not.

My pragmatic mother (who taught breastfeeding to new mothers when she was a labor and delivery nurse) didn't make an issue of it while I was growing up, so I accepted it as natural.

It's society's sexualizing of breasts that makes it 'taboo' and 'uncomfortable' ("If there's nipple, that means somebody's getting turned on."), which is silly because breasts are nothing but fat and milk glands.

That's a really good point, Chilipepper. I was never exposed to it when I was younger (I refuse to acknowledge I had a mother. I call her my egg donor.) with family or friends. The first time I saw it in public was when I was 15 or so, and it just stuck with me that this woman had the guts to do it in public. I do admit, it takes balls to be able to do it in public. I just couldn't. I'm too conservative...though I hate that word, because I'm so damn liberal

I love to see women breastfeed because It's a wonderful. In today's world people are so quick to put man made products into their babies system instead of giving them natural mothers milk. My daughter would not breastfeed.. at all. SO I had to pump every single drop of milk that she drank for the first 6 months of her life. It was exhausting.. but I did it for her. So she can grow to be as strong and healthy as possible.

BUT I think that there is always a way to do it tastefully. Do I want to see some lady with her whole tit hanging out, half her nipple showing? No. Use a blanket, a breastfeeding wrap.. something.

No disrespect to anyone who publicly breastfeeds. If you manage to do so tastefully, without flashing everyone, then here's to you! I understand it is a necessary evil for those who choose to breastfeed, and sometimes you just have to whip it out, but please cover it up!

I used to work at a grocery store deli, and there was a woman who had massive amounts of children.. Every time I saw her, she had either just given birth, or was currently pregnant. (I'm not even kidding!!) She used to walk up to the deli counter, order, and then whip out her boobies in front of everyone while she was being waited on, to breastfeed. Absolutely no discretion, whatsoever. I found this rather awkward and offensive, because how do you not look at someone's boobs if they are hanging out, whether you want to or not? It made waiting on her extremely difficult at times.

Thank you. I get that we all have things we find attractive and unattractive but sometimes, the way we state those opinions can come across as very hurtful to those who may not fit our definitions.

How many women have been made to feel uncomfortable about the size and shape of their breasts? The size and shape of their labia?

I know we sometimes get caught up in joking and having fun and don't realize what we say can come across as cruel to others but I ask that we please try to slow down and think before we make that sort of remark.

I'd hate to think some one reading here tonight left upset or feeling bad about their less than perfect body due to casual joking.

We all have areas that aren't perfect. None of us like having them pointed out or poked fun of.

Again, I thank you for the apology. I'm not a hillbilly or from the south but, yanno, there probably is someone here who is.

I am all for allowing people to be their natural selves even if someone doesn't like it, but there are situations where I think we can be kinder to their sensitivities. I voted "not where people eat" because I can understand this could potentially ruin someone's meal, but I don't think it should be completely unallowed, just encouraged to be discreet (move to a private area or use a blanket-- or napkin!) to cover yourself.

My sister-in-law breast fed all five of her children (she and her husband are very, very well-to-do and can afford them). She managed to breastfeed very, very discreetly in all kinds of situations -- including while we were at restaurants. In all the years that she breast-fed, she never once revealed any flesh. She was so adept at deftly positioning the baby under a blanket that most of the time people did not even know what she was doing. It just looked like she was holding the baby and had him covered to keep him warm. When she would be feeding him and someone would ask to see the baby, she'd just wink and say, "He's eating right now, but he'll be glad to see you later" (or something to that effect).
