Male and prefer stick. I learned with a stick shift car, and I just find it more interesting. It also keeps me more alert, since it's not just holding down the gas

I really dislike driving an automatic. The computer program in an automatic is a compromise--it tries to guess what you are trying to do by looking at your current speed, the gear you're in, and how quickly and how much you mash on the gas pedal. The technology has gotten much better, but it still can only guess. The car also hesitates then lurches while the car tries to read your mind.

Instead, with a manual I can anticipate and decide exactly what I want to do without any of the uncertainty of the computer's best guess. For example, if I know I'm going to pass in 5 seconds I can downshift early while keeping the same speed to increase my power for when I decide to transition into the passing lane, and then floor the pedal without any hesitation because I'm already in the gear I want.

I know some people here have probably never experienced the difference, but I like the control of a manual transmission.

I would love to learn how to drive manual cars, as I've only been taught with automatic. But my dream is to have a 1969 Pontiac GTO one day, so I need to learn to drive manually.

Female, I can drive a stick but prefer an auotmatic because of the amount of hills in my city.

I drive auto. I tried to learn stick a few years ago but I would kill the thing about 3 times just trying to get out of the driveway, but I want to try and learn again.

I never learned to drive a stick but did learn to ride my own motorcycle. Hubs says I can drive a stick now...not going to be trying it any time soon!
