Never plan to buy a car with a stick shift. Why on earth would I? Friend got the MOST incredible sports car and even HIS has an automatic.

I'd like to learn, it's a handy skill. I'm also considering getting a motorcycle and would like to learn to use manual in a car before I try it on a motorcycle.

i have an automatic but I noticed when I drive a standard I pay better attention to driving and whats going on.Also in the winter I prefer a standard..I feel safer because in snow storms I found I can better control my car when I can downshift and so forth!

I've always driven automatics, but my girlfriend owns a stick and refuses to drive automatics so I've been learning stick. It's nerve racking in an SUV.. but I'm trying to get used to it.

I can drive a manual and don't really mind either. ALTHOUGH I do love an auto for racing other cars off at the lights.....hehehe.

I just got my first automatic, and am shocked to see how much I hate it. Even stuck in city traffic, which is the best thing about automatic, I still am looking for my third pedal. The mountains are lame and passive without my clutch...

I prefur to drive stick, but with me being in and out of the hospital the last couple of years. It's a lot easier with an automatic, mainly because I'm not able to drive to the hospital.

I drive a giant stick shift truck, and love riding motorcycles. There is just something amazing about having that much control over a piece of machinery.

I learned to drive on an automatic and have no desire to learn to drive a stick. It drives my husband crazy because he loves to drive stick and his car is a stick. Thus I can't drive his car, and since his car is by far the most efficient, it is the one we take when we go somewhere together, so he always has to drive.

I cannot currently drive a stick. It would be useful for me to learn how, but at the moment I'm not interested enough to pursue it.

I have learned how to get it in to second gear and that's as far as I got. Old ex taught me so never finished learning, but would like to just to say I know how.

Both of us have driven stick before, and we currently own one vehicle that is stick (Mazda 6 - the husband's) and one that is not (Honda Cr-V, the wife's). The manual transmission in the Mazda 6 makes it a BLAST to drive (not that it wasn't already)!

I really don't like driving in the first place. All I've heard about driving stick is that it's harder than automatic and I really don't need my driving to be any harder than it has to be.

How else will you nab a dump truck or armored car for safe transport?
Very practical advice.
