Harry Potter by far! The whole Twilight craze annoys me to no end. I find it very shallow and childish. Plus, with Harry Potter comes Professor Snape and that brings out all kinds of naughty teacher/student fantasies in me.
Harry Potter Vs. Twilight
01/11/2011
I read both. Harry Potter all the way. Twilight just kind of made me angry.
01/11/2011
Harry Potter is WAY better. I read one Twilight book and it was...OKAY, but nothing spectacular. I have never seen any of the movies, nor do I have any plans to change this.
01/17/2011
I'm kind of indifferent here. I really don't get the whole rivalry between the two. I mean, I know they are both geared toward the same age group but for me that's where the similarities end. To me they are completely different entities. Maybe I'm just too diplomatic.
01/17/2011
To be honest, when I made this poll I thought it would be slightly more on the HP side, but not this heavily!
01/17/2011
I grew up with HP! Gotta support!
01/21/2011
Huge Harry fan here. Twilight is just too moody and teenager-like for me.
01/21/2011
I've never watched Twilight , because i just know i would hate it. And I've watched 1 Harry Potter movie, but i completely forgot what happened in the movie. I don't care for either of them...

I can't tell you how glad I am to see that HP has beaten twilight in the poll. ^-^ I don't mind the story of the big bad T so much, but the writing is sooooo bad!

I liked Twilight for a little while. It was an easy read, guilty pleasure. Like eating candy for breakfast.
HP I've never gotten into. I might see this last movie though because I did read the very last book and it seems like it's finally interesting to me. lol

What i like more is House of Night. but its not a movie..... yet. its the best of both worlds!

I love Harry Potter. Screw Twilight.
It sort of reminds me of one of the Worgen {Alliance in World of Warcraft werewolves} jokes they tell.

I think both are well written works of art, not just literature! That said, I hate both sets of movies! Read people!!!!
02/13/2011
I voted Twilight even though I think it promotes (in a joking sense) Necrophilia, Bestiality, and cheating. lol. I love Twilight and HP, but I wasn't able to get into the books of HP as much as I could with Twilight.

It's just that it's not even the same genre of book, so I don't get why they are compared so frequently. It's like asking people whether they like a steak or chocolate ice cream, the Lakers or the Cowboys... Yeah, the first two are foods and the second two are sports teams, but they're completely different types of each thing. Dinner vs. dessert, basketball team vs. football team.
It's just never made a whole lot of sense to me to compare the two. I like each series for what they are.
As a side note, a lot of people who have read the Twilight Saga and felt like Stephenie Meyer sucked as a writer later read The Host and loved it. I haven't been able to get very far in the book because I am also reading the Wizard's First Rule series and my mind goes to Richard and Kahlan every time she mentions 'The Seeker', but it is a better story so far. I actually think her writing style flows very well, she's a great story teller, it's just that the story in the Twilight books isn't appealing to everyone. less

I think I'd rather have my kids read HP instead of Twilight too. For one thing, what's great about HP is it really begins for kids and grows (theoretically) with the kids, getting more mature every year, as kids do.

But also, and more importantly, Harry Potter is about friendship and bravery and fighting for good. Twilight is about Bella obsessing over a hot, over-protective, dangerous guy, with no real theme or anything resembling admirable qualities. I don't want my daughters growing up with Mary-Sue girls like Bella as their models. I'd rather them read about brave, strong, smart characters like Hermione.
02/27/2011
I picked Harry Potter. But in all reality I like them equally. Though true I might like HP just a little bit more.
02/27/2011
I love the Harry Potter series. I sort of grew up on them, and I just think they are written very well and the plot and symbolism and.... Twilight, I read the first one when I was on a very long plane ride and had nothing else to do. It was a quick read, not very compelling for me. Plus, sparkly vampires? No thanks.
02/27/2011
Twilight. I'm in love with vampires and wolfy guys with major muscles. Can't help it.

While Bella isn't my favorite person in the series, as she's extremely narcissistic, the story in and of itself is something that, at the time when my daughters are old enough (15, 16) I don't see the problem with them reading it. It's a romance. There are two men that love her and both of them are protective, gallant, and considerate. These are qualities I hope my daughters consider when they begin to find someone to be with. Actually, a very big misconception of the Twilight series is that it's about her sex life with Edward. Edward actually makes her wait until they're married before he will sleep with her. A quality that is very rare in today's society, and one I think is admirable. Granted, I don't expect my daughters to wait until marriage, as I find it unrealistic to expect since I'm not raising them to be fundamentalist conservatives.

I do hope that my girls are independent, considerate, strong, brave, and selfless like many of the characters in Harry Potter (like Ginny, Hermione, Tonks, Molly, et al.) and I feel that the characters are great role models for my daughters. Not to mention characteristics in friends that I hope they seek.
Frankly, I think both series are decent, though I feel that HP is written better and characters are developed better. However, comparing the two is like comparing music to books. Frankly, it's two different things. One series is an epic adventure, the other is an epic romance. The whole point of Twilight is the romance, whereas in HP, it's only a component. They each have their place and time in my daughter's lives (if they want to read them)

I've never actually watched the harry potter movies or read the books so I had to vote for twilight (even though it's rather meh)

I'll admit, I've never read the Harry Potter series and I only read up to the first half of New Moon, but i can definitely say that Harry Potter is by far superior. The writing is wonderful, the characters have dimension, it's action packed and just about anyone can find enjoyment it them no matter what age.
Twilight...
The writing is more like that of an angsty 14 year old, the characters are about as deep as an evaporated puddle, and, really, there's nothing to the story. It's not romantic. It's not good to read. It's contradictory. HE CHEWS THE BABY OUT OF HER.
Ummm...I'd like to see how they fit THAT scene into the next movie.

I've read both.
I prefer Harry Potter.
Then again, I'm not a teen/pre-teen girl.

I don't mean this to be rude, but I would prefer that you not talk about the last book as if you'd read it. You admitted as such. Edward doesn't chew the baby out of her. The baby chews her way out. Equally violent, only Edward doesn't do it. And since you only read 1.5 of the 4 books, it's really hard to say that it's contradictory or nothing to the story. Like Harry Potter (which is, by far, my favorite book series ever), it's a continuous storyline and not one single book can effectively stand alone without many questions begging to be answered.

While it may not be the most well-written collection of books ever written, it is a good read to some. The problem with the series is she doesn't build much dimension to the characters (revealing their pasts, etc.) until the last two novels. If she had developed it more in the first two books, it would have been better to read. That being said, I devoured these books. I read them in short order with enough action happening in Eclipse (by far my favorite of the 4) that it actually kept me up all night.
Harry Potter is still my preference, but again, these two series are so completely different that you can't really compare them effectively.

Even the husband loves Harry Potter I wish they would have kept the movies following the books, but I still love it. Neither of us can stand Twilight. The characters are outright annoying (for lack of better term), and just seem to give all of the 12 year olds around here one more reason to grow up too early. Here kids, nothing else matters except which guy's hot enough to date. And don't worry if it's hard to choose, they'll both be fine if you keep going back and forth. You'll get what you want. No repercussions even. Ugh.
03/06/2011
I watch and love both. But If I had to choose between the two it's Twilight.
03/10/2011
Twilight is terrible, right down to the grammar. Harry Potter started out ok, but the last book was just terrible, so I have a bit of hate for HP too.
