50 Shades of Gray is reported to have begun as Twilight fanfic, and had surged into popularity with women who've decided it's okay to read bdsm erotica because all their friends are doing it. Whatever it takes!

I'm currently reading Laced, and it's really sexy. I'm extremely into tight-lacing, so this is a fun one. I figure, might as well finish the book while I'm sitting here with you all, right?

Thank you! I was so pleased to see stories about self-bondage, something I hadn't read a lot of before. Also wanted to let everyone know I'm reading for Best Bondage Erotica 2013 through May 1, but earlier stories are encouraged (I already have a few on my short list). Details are at link

(lol) I actually read some Buffy bdsm fanfiction once. I have never read a word or fanfic since. So. Effin. Bad. I swear, I wanted to cry.

I loved "Melting Ice", and the opera one too. Here's what Liz Coldwell said about writing that one:

"The inspiration for A Night At The Opera came from a photo of a man in a pair of bondage opera gloves, from the website of a manufacturer of bondage equipment. We'd run a piece on the company in question when I worked on Forum magazine, and I kept the photo on file because I particularly liked the image. I'm not usually a great one for male sub imagery, but this was of quite a beefy, silver fox type shown from the back, wearing nothing but his underwear and the opera gloves. That set in mind a story where the gloves were worn in what ought to be their natural habitat - an opera house - with the tension set up between the dominant, opera-loving wife and her submissive, opera-hating husband. I think if there's a battle of wills that goes beyond the usual dom/sub dynamic of needing
to have orders obeyed and instructions followed, it makes the scenario a little more interesting, and what sub wouldn't enjoy rebelling against being made to endure a type of cultural experience they particularly detest?"

I love to see where ideas come from, and how they develop.

Thank you! To a large degree I'm at the mercy of what comes into my inbox, but I try to have a range, especially in a bondage collection, of scenarios/settings, people doing the bondage/being bound, types of bondage and types of bondage tools. I have a fondness for stories where there's bondage plus something else going on, like tickling or spanking or teasing or hot wax or...okay, I am getting carried away! But I enjoy taking a specific topic and broadening it, if that makes sense. Thanks to everyone here for your close reading. I also recommend searching for bondage items here on EF and seeing what comes up, always a great way to incorporate toys into your erotica.

Laced was a big surprise for me about what and who. It's well written and you get to feel the sensual vibe between them.

I've got a bit from Teresa Noelle Roberts about writing "Suffer for Me".

I wrote "Suffer for Me" because I was suffering from BDSM-erotica burnout. Yes, really. I write quite a bit in the genre, almost all male-dom, but when I set down to work on a story for Rachel, my brain froze up and I couldn't come up with a single creative idea that involved boys tying up and/or spanking girls. (You'll be glad to know I've gotten past that block. The well of warpedness has not run dry!)

Obviously it was time for a change of direction. I decided to write a heterosexual femdom story, not something I do often. Casting around for a scenario for my lovingly evil heroine and hapless, lucky hero, I remembered a presentation I'd attended at a kink event about male multiple orgasms and how to bring them about. The presenter was a gay dom, and by the end of the presentation, I suspect even the straightest and toppiest guys in there were thinking, "I'd play with him just once...so he could do that to me!" Hell, it made me wish I had a cock, and trust me, that's not my usual line of thinking!

I took some ideas from that presentation, some ideas I'd picked up from my personal interest in hypnosis, and a few ideas from my own twisted little brain and my own experiences as a sub--and a story was born.

I don't keep up with it terribly much either - so many other sites to keep up with but I do like to geek out on it on occasion and I think I might possibly use it more if more of my "friends" were people i knew (at least virtually, lol).

Thanks for sharing, it really is interesting to see what's their inspiration. Not something that you often come up with out of nowhere.

Instead, I just hold the sides of the bureau until my knuckles go white, forgetting to breathe for a few long seconds until finally, suddenly, much too soon, Stefan gives the laces one last tug and steps back, those elegant hands falling useless by his sides.

"There you go," he says. "Comfortable?"

That's actually a good point. I do enjoy keeping up with people I feel like I know in some other context. I might have to add it to my social networking rotation...

So, if I may paraphrase, you look for a lack of one-dimensionality in the actual play aspect of the narrative?
