just one of my many journals....nothing special. I try to come up with five things per day I'm grateful for.

yep i'm good at that when it comes to men.

women, however, is a different story. so timid about conflict with women! i wonder why that is.

Anitpova brings up a good point as well. Too often we forget that everyone on this whole planet is immersed in their own problems and concerns. It IS something to marvel at when one can rise about his/her own concerns to take notice of someone else's problems and lend a helping hand. Hell soeting as simple as a heart felt "Have a great day" or smile can totally change a person's day...or even life. Itremindsme of the story I heard about a young man who was contemplating suicide when he got to talking to a young lady at a grocery store. She was dealing with leaving an abusive relationship and bemoaned that there weren't more good guys like him in the world....he realized she was being 100% totaly serious and it changed his life. He ended up marrying her and was eternaly grateful she had decided to talk to him that day instead of just serving him and getting him out the door.

thats so neat. my aunt bought me a journal that has little prompts in it to write about what you're grateful for.

thats really cool. i should get back into writing in mine too.

wow what a story! that's beautiful.

when i'm feeling really good i like to play the smile game. i smile at just bout everyone i see and watch how it changes their face. someone you may glance at and think 'oh they must be mean' because of the look on their face, will turn into a beautiful loving person right before your eyes when they return a smile.

When my son came home from his first break at college - he shocked me by talking to the clerks, etc - mentioning them by name, etc

He pointed out that he'd been learning about how they are people too with needs, etc. and that it didn't hurt him at all to make them smile and encourage them.

I try to do that too - just to encourage whoever I see and if I can - I use their name too because I think that makes them feel good.

I am so totally opposite of that. I am all claws and dominant teeth with women but men? I melt to jello...when I notice them. Social anxiety has many forms and mine is 'head down and hide'.

it's a habit that's hard to get out of when you live in the city. i notice that country folk speak to eachother more often and more in depth. it's because other folk are more rare. when you're in the city packed in like sardines and surrounded by people you get jaded real fast and their faces become blurs. they become obstacles between you and your destination.

oddly enough, my state, kentucky, has a motto 'it's that friendly!'

and i do notice that in places with higher population, people are less friendly.

My Arch is that way...when he is wearing his sunglasses and stuff he looks like the terminator and people are afraid. Get him to smile though and OMG he's ADORABLE!

It costs so little sometimes for us to get someone to smile or brighten their day. Sometimes its only a smile of our own - or one or two words. Yet how often do we do it? Know what I mean?

LOL I am so loving you right now! So much more classy than saying mean things about him and stuff. Just short, simple and to the point.

This is interesting---I live in both a rural town (where I grew up) and a capital city (college/current job location).

And I am way more friendly and outgoing in the city, because I don't know the people, and they don't know me. In my hometown, I dread going to the store because the clerks know who I am and ask personal questions, and I usually don't want to discuss personal matters with people that aren't either close friends or complete strangers.

Wonder why.

I just reread Kathryn Hale's "No Longer A Child" and I LOVE IT still! I love the selchie myth and the story is the hope of ust about everyone who is battling a terminal condition. To just change form and swim away free, healthy and happy. *sigh so beautiful

I just got here.

I prefer suburbs, personally. Not too many people, and not too few people. One of my aunts lives in a teeny ass town outside of Athens, Georgia, and if you screw up even once, you'll never let it down. Yeah, not good for my anxiety.

I had a hard time with that one - I think I had to reread it a couple of times to really get it. Probably because I wasn't familiar with that myth. It was well written though.

Wow, that's a really moving story. It's also why I try to go out of my way to tell a clerk to have a great day with a smile when I buy something. I know that that little thing can make a huge impact in somebody's day.

I hate suburbs because they are unbikable. All the speed limits are too fast to bike on the road, and there are never any sidewalks, and everything is twisty and weird. When I lived in a (different) city and needed a new cell phone battery from a network dealer, and the only one was in the suburbs, I had to drag my bike up and over some chain linked fences to even get in the mall (because I just can't bike 55mph!) I felt all left out. And then everybody in the mall looked at me weirdly for carrying a bike helmet.

Give me a city or a country any day.

The mth is one of the Norther England's smaller islands and it says that there are certan families that can change form to a seal with theaid of a seal skin...which is actually their own real skin. Its a praticular favorite of mine.

That sounds horrible! Here in Mo. we don't expect ANYONE to bike unless they can't get a car license so I feel your pain.
