Ihave like 4 or 5 old cells sitting around too.
There could even be a check there to donate anything (even a $1 donation goes a long way when a bunch of people do it). I've ordered things on websites before that have that option when you check out.

Now this is a winning idea! This community should have loads of old batteries to donate!

What about a 'sign up' thread?

Everyone who wants to join in could sign up, and list their availability and all like you suggested earlier.

Y'all are giving some great ideas. Being somewhat new to my area, you are giving me some ideas on where to look. Thanks, keep them coming.

Yea, that's exactly what I was thinking. But, I think it has been brought up before and there is probably a good reason why it never happened?

All of us will have to do our best to bump that thread repeatedly. It might get lost in the shuffle pretty quickly.

I imagine that beyond the programming there could be some IRS issues relating to charitable donations) to deal with as well.

Or even libraries. I know library funding gets cut every year.
Libraries (at least around here) are more picky than the places I listed. They require books to be in really good shape while the other kinds don't care that much. Then again, that's rural Iowa where people don't *need* things as much as they do in other places. Libraries are definitely a possibility though!

That's a shame! Ours does not put the donations on the shelves for check out. They sell them for less than a dollar a piece and use the proceeds. So maybe that is why they take more.

A few things to add here...

Ideas for organizations and charities should be our second focus. There are no shortages of worthy causes.

First - who want to join in, help, and participate?
Okay going back a little ways here. I know we wanted to figure out ways to help organizations, but how do you really pick a way to help until you've picked an organization?

It seems to me like you need to know what organization your supporting and what that specific organization needs before you can make an action plan :/

No no, I was not turned away. Like I said, I do it every month and have for quite a few years. But a lot of it is getting wasted right now because there is not enough man power (or money to ship things) for the amount of clothing donations. Does that ... more
The local thrift store around here stopped taking clothing items (many other places too) due to bedbugs being spread.

Yep I am late and trying to catch up on all the great ideas flowing.

We talked about doing that - so when do things that require money, we have a way for people to give to the fundraiser. Now, to make sure we CAN do it

I know some sites will bump prices like...25 cents (something small) on everything they sell and then that .25 cents is donated from every single item that is sold. and with an increase like that you hardly even notice. Your kind of unconsciously donating :p

Sorry guys, got to run. Be back to see where this goes.

Love y'all.

I could see that going both ways. I could see some choosing the option and some not choosing it. I also wonder how many/how often EF members actually purchase items and not use points or gift card accumulations. It is an interesting thought if it could be implemented.

I need to go now too. I've held off getting dinner ready long enough. Take care, everybody.

Yes that's true, but sometimes it also gives people that little extra push when they're trying to decide weather or not to buy something. Knowing part of the proceeds are going somewhere good might make ya feel a little less guilty about spoiling yourself :p

Wow, I come in late and everyone leaves for the most part. I gotta either keep my typing to myself or learn to schedule better.

For what its worth, I think the canned food drive woudl be the easiest to take on. It would be the honor system but so many food shelves are struggling or closing because of donations.

I really like helping causes that have anyhting to do with women and mens helath. Especially the men because they get overlooked.

Animals are always a popular option in getting people to contribute. Who can't resist those sad little eyes.

I really like the "etsy" idea of selling products. *Stepping down off my soapbox*

Good point! I never thought of it from that point of view.
