I'd be willing to send stuff in too, although I don't have anything ready at the present time.

I think you should have a small committee for each fundraiser you do - that way it changes with each outreach effort, and more people can cycle through the EdenGivesBack club management, depending on the causes they feel strongly about.

I don't think anything is happening immediately, I just happen to have a few that I've made sitting around

Cool, what a great idea. Like Alyjazz was saying, this would be a great way to contribute for those with limited funds.
There are a lot of things that we can all do with limited funds. We could co-ordinate a community canned food drive. We could all go through our cabinets, take a snapshot or two with the can count, and then donate the cans to our local centers. We could do those 'adopt a highway' type cleanup projects by picking an area to clean up in our areas. Then post a before and after picture. There are lots of things we can do to raise money as well. So yeah, let's start putting our heads together here

That would be the nice thing, you could send them when ever you had the time

It's too bad there wasn't a way to do the same thing but with the sex toys we no longer want. There are, of course, really good reasons why that wouldn't work.

Not everything *should* involve money - I totally agree!!! Actions should be a part of this club too. Like volunteering your time and sharing about it - it inspires others to do the same. And we can help each other find those volunteerism opportunities... or CREATE them in our communities!!

That is such an amazingly simple idea.

I'm up for helping out with either or those. They are simple and like you said...don't require a lot of money to do. I'm a bit busy with my recycling project, but could totally take on something else like that.

I think that this is a very good point. Money isn't necessarily the best way to give back to your community.

Similar to the idea of the canned goods, would something like a clothes donation work? I know it isn't much, but it might be something.

Folks with childrens clothing can donate clothes their kids no longer fit into, or when you go through and clean out your closet, maybe take a before and after picture, and go bring that bag of clothing to a local shelter? I know where I live there are a lot of donation boxes, similar to large mail boxes, where you can just drop off bags of clothing and shoes.

If we can come up with some good fund-raising ideas, and some good ideas of how to work together... everything else will be easy!

Geez. We have three garbage bags worth of toys sitting in our basement waiting to be donated. Probably 2 garbage bags of (childrens) toys too.

I do that every month. The problem with clothing is that places like the Salvation Army are actually over loaded with it and asking for things other than clothing. A lot of it goes to waste. I think our time would be best spent elsewhere. Good idea though.

What are we good at? What connections do we have? What experience do we have? I am sure you are all capable of some great ideas that you just haven't discovered yet.

Do you know if Toys for Tots is all year round? Or just at the holidays?

We could do a monthly theme that we all agree on, then everybody is welcome to join in? Some months could be volunteerism in our neighborhoods and local areas. Photos would be a way to collectively show our efforts and have a monthly "collage of kindness"...thoughts?

Just because the Salvation Army that you're donating to is overwhelmed with clothing right now doesn't mean that the Salvation Army in say, Norfolk, Virgina is. And there are plenty of other places to donate clothing to besides Salvation Army

Most communities have local women's shelters. Is there a way we could do something to benefit them?

We have a St. Vincent De Paul store, that does a ton of work in our small community. They are always looking for clothing donations.

We also have a Habitat for Humanity that does a bunch of work on need family's homes. They also are always looking for general help.

Are there any local daycare centers or other children's shelters or some place like that that could use toys?

How about an online silent auction where people donate things like vouchers for toys, gift certificates, art, grafts, etc. There could be a minimum amount each could be worth so no one you bids knows that they are going to win a "boobie prize". That would make the donation process a lot more fun for people, as silent auctions can definitely be fun.

I'd be willing to donate gift certificates and art (once I have it).

They collect toys all year long, but only distribute during the holidays.

Have you tried other places like women's shelters and the Red Cross? I have never, in 17 years of donating clothes and shoes, been turned away. And I mean from several places - Goodwill, church thrifts, Salvation Army, women's shelters, local non-profit orgs etc.

Oh, it's going to get donated, we're just waiting to see which summer clothes the kids have outgrown before donating it.

If we did something like this, we could also alternate themes that require fund-raising perhaps.

I am making a general statment. It was in the news. They asked that people STOP the donation of clothing and focus on other types of donations if possible. Salvation Army was also just ONE example. They all are over loaded with not enough people to sort through it etc. Look it up if you don't believe me. Perhaps we could donate our time instead of clothing.
