Well, I would have to say you are a virgin until you have sex with another person, but if you want to say you lost your virginity to a sex toy that is fine with me.
If a person uses toys, is the person still a virgin?

Somehow I don't really believe in the concept of virginity.

I have no idea. this is a very deep subject. Here is a statement to make it even deeper.
are you still a virgin if you do everything except have penis penatration? Such as finger fucking.
IDK the answere at all.

I definitely agree that the definition of virginity involves a lot of gray area, so I'm just going to answer in terms of my own experience:
I am still a virgin, and I don't plan on considering myself NOT a virgin until a man penetrates me. I have penetrated myself with toys many times with little thought that I was 'taking my virginity' by doing so. Part of my choice to use toys is because I know I'm not emotionally ready to give myself up to someone, and I believe there is definitely a strong emotional aspect involved with losing one's virginity.
Something else that I don't think has been brought up here yet: if a guy sticks his penis in something other than a vagina (or anus for argument's sake), would that be suggesting that HE is no longer a virgin?

You can't lose you're virginity to a toy.

Yes, I use toys, and I am still a virgin.

I agree with your comment. My hymen wasn't broken my first time and some people never broken their hymen and have had sex multiple times.

It's a concept I don't like because it--in my opinion--promotes patriarchy. I like "The Purity Myth" as a good read on the topic, though I don't know how I feel about the book yet.
Astutite comments, folks, by the way.
Interesting question, thanks for the original post

In my personal opinion she is still a virgin until she has the real thing. Even if the hymen wasn't broken using a toy and wasn't broken the first time having sex with a partner, that first time you lost your virginity. I wouldn't go along with if the hymen is broken or not because some cases they don't break or don't at first.

Solo acts do not de-virginate, in my opinion. That takes an interpersonal sexual experience. Besides. I think virginity is more of a state of mind anyway.

Yes - when they are sexual with another person to the point that they no longer consider themselves a virgin, then they are not anymore.

I think a person is a virgin until they experience actual, physical sexual encounters with another person. Toys don't count in my book.

YES! I feel virginity is only lost when two human people are having sex. If you could lose it any other way, there would be no such thing as virgins being some start masturbating at like 4 years old (externally) and some internally by the age of 13.

virginity is all about the hymen, technically. But then again, anything you do for the first time can be called losing your virginity. If someone lost their anal virginity, it just means something was there. Not that it was the real thing. So its all debatable.

shes still a virgin but her bf or lover will not get the full experience of the tearing of the hymon but it can also lead to a better more fulfilling firts time with out that painful first step

You're still a virgin, not that it should matter all that much.

I played with dildos for a couple of years before the real thing and still considered myself a virgin.

This thread is very informative. I'm a virgin and I've just purchased my first toy! Exciting! But I've been nervous, wondering whether I would lose my "virginity" to a toy. I know it's ridiculous to think that but that's what popped in my mind! But upon further reading of people's thoughts, I agree with the majority. I think losing your virginity is very personal and subjective, it's a different answer for everyone as an individual. An answer might be correct for someone but a different answer might also be correct for someone else.
I think it's at the moment when you are intimate with someone (doesn't mean it's the first time) and in that moment when you experience a shift in your thoughts, when that moment happens when you think,"Okay, this is it" and you get to the "next level", when you shift/break through into a new territory in your sexuality with another person. It's in the emotions and mind of the person, it's different for everyone what they personally define losing their virginity is. Whether it's a woman who feels that penetrative sex with a guy means losing her virginity or if a lesbian woman receives cunningulus from another woman for the first time, it's different for everyone yet it's correct for the individual's personal life experience/perception. I think it's in the state of your mind, when you feel different, like you've just had a sexual experience that was new and that affected you, moved you to a newer territory. I think the moment when you feel that shift with your psyche, when you feel you've stepped out from where you were (emotionally or mentally or physically) and stepped into a new territory of intimacy, however it happened, that's when a person might describe themselves as having lost their virginity.
I'm trying to explain my thoughts but not sure if I'm making sense.I think a person can be intimate with another person, touch each other, explore each other and still consider themselves a virgin...until...until what? For someone it might be penetrative sex, for someone else it might be something else! It's all in what the person believes in, what feels RIGHT for you.

yes she is still a virgin

Virginity is a social construct, not a physical state, and the hymen has nothing to do with it, as it can and will get broken by a number of non-sexual activities long before the average girl thinks about sex. The concept of virginity has been overemphasized by our society, which insists on slut shaming girls while simultaneously shaming those who wait longer as prudes.

I Would Still Consider Somebody Who Uses Toys A Virgin. Until They've Had The Real Thing, I Don't Think Toys Count.

I have voted in this before, but I came back to it because I just don't see why it matters really. You can't run around having sex all the time and calling yourself a born again virgin, but I don't see why people care to promote or concern themselves with virginity. I personally see virginity as something shared between two people, and obviously losing it isn't always the most pleasing sexual encounter, but in terms of thought, I don't worry too much about it.
Physically, if a girl shows that her hymen is broken during some sort of examination, then they can say that you aren't really a virgin, but there is still some question because of what people's perspectives are about sexual activity.
