Deep throat or Anal: Which was a harder act to learn?

I'm not a woman, but deep-throating has got to be incredibly hard to do. Most people have an involuntary gag reflex, and I'm not sure how on earth you ladies override it.

Agree - but most people have an equally adverse reaction to something going 'in the out door'. Both are challenging - but I agree that deep throat is probably harder.

I almost threw up when I tried to deep throat my boyfriend the other night. I really want to learn how to do it properly because I know he likes it, but oh, my god... It feels icky. >.<

Anal for me. It literally took me years of trying before I was able to be fully penetrated and enjoy it.

Deep throat- still haven't learned it! I really want to learn but hubby's girth makes my jaw crack (gotta love tmj... NOT. :s) on top of having a really bad gag reflex and every time I try I just can't seem to pull it off. If anybody here is good at it I'd love some pointers!

Anal for me. I have tmj, but it's not too much of a problem during oral usually, and I don't have a strong gag reflex at all. Anal was a lot easier with my ex because he was smaller. With my current boyfriend, it's still difficult almost no matter what I do.

DT. I am still working on it. Anal was all about state of mind for me.
01/06/2011
Definitely anal.

DT, anal was second nature to me (but it does take a bit of relaxation). Deep throating involves much more practice in my experience.

I guess it really depends on what you want to do. I enjoy anal play, so anal relaxation was solved quickly. The several times I've tried to deep throat dildos (on a whim) things haven't worked out well. You've got several reactions to deal with in D.T. also - the body trying to vomit and the difficulty with the object cutting off air.

I'd have to choose deep throat. Anal was fine for me. Relaxation and proper precautions and lots of lube. !

Deep throating was not too difficult for me to learn. But having anal was much more difficult for me to learn. It was and still is hard to learn when it can be quite painful.

I'm still working on both. My gag reflex is pretty brutal, and I'm claustrophobic so I don't like the feeling of not being in control of my throat and breathing. Anal is just tough because I haven't had enough warm up or practice, and the pain of trying is turning me more and more off.

I'm still trying to deepthroat, but I had anal before vaginal sex and that was the easiest thing.

I think this one put it best for me. I do find the anal difficulties interesting, not having experienced them. For me it was the dt.

I can't deepthroat, although I haven't really tried to so maybe I could with practice. I hate gagging so I just go as far as feels comfortable then don't try to push it any farther. Anal wasn't difficult for me at all. I went from zero anal experience to fingering to anal sex in a couple of minutes.

I don't have any deep throat issues so I chose anal. I have to be in the mood for anal but oral is a normal part of our foreplay and I like to deep throat. I have a total oral fixation thing.

Anal. It didn't take me long to learn to DT. I however, still have problems with anal.
01/17/2011
Deepthroating was more difficult.
I took to anal like a duck to water!

I think for some people, it's mental and for some people it's anatomical. Certainly seems that way from the answers here so far. For me, it's mostly anatomical. I am fine with DT, but anal is still not fully comfortable.

I'm a huge fan of both, but deepthroating takes more concentration. If your partner understands the basics of safe anal, you don't have to worry about it as often as deepthroating.
01/19/2011
I still can't do anal
01/20/2011
Deep throating is only hard if you have a bad gag reflex.
01/24/2011
I'd say they're hard to compare, as they're pretty much completely different animals, but both get easier if you really want it, and both take lots of practice. Dildos work great in both cases for warm-up and practice!

I agree with OliviaKink; this is an interesting question, but when it comes down to it, it's comparing apples and oranges (to use a cliche).
Personally, I didn't have any trouble with anal sex my first time, so I voted for deepthroating.

For me, giving head at all is difficult because I have a pretty small oral cavity and a VERY strong gag reflex (I can't even swallow pills). Anal is a state of mind for me and is all about how aroused I am, so I really have no difficulty there.

For me, relaxing is the key to both and once I learned that it was game on.
Anal was a bit harder to handle because there was some actual pain involved and I had to fight through that and coach myself back into that 'relax' mode.
With giving head, I just had to remind myself that I wasn't going to choke to death on cock.

Helpful tip: smiling suppresses your gag reflex!
