So far I've only used disposable pads but I recently got a reusable pad with a super cute design on it. Now I'm just waiting for my period to come so I can try it out. I've never been so eager to start. Lol
what kind of supplies do you use during menstruation?

Love my LadyCup (small lotos). It's a bit too small for me, only MeLunas are smaller than Ladies but it makes curing cramps with orgasms so much easier. I've been wanting to get a Lunette or Green Donna but it get lost in the mail. Twice.

lol, I was the same way waiting to try out my new supplies. I made my reusable pads and got so excited when I found a pattern I really liked. I made way more than I really need and then went out and bought more fabric

Personally I just switched to a menstrual cup and cloth pads after ten years of disposables. I find this an all too fascinating subject and one that I ignored for years. I wonder how many other women are out there that just avoid thinking about it just using what can be bought at wall-mart because they have been taught to give as little thought to the subject of menstruation as possible. I only recently discovered alternatives to disposables so if I missed anything let me know. Please only choose free bleeding if you never use any form of protection. the poll is private
as a bonus question I would be interested to know; Is anyone else more grossed out by a plastic bag of dried out disposable pads and tampon tubes than rinsed out cloth pads in the laundry hamper? less

Tampons... reusable tampons eeesh... I don't care how green they are, but no.

I feel the need to add that most reusable pads are shaped a lot like a disposable with wings; the wings have snaps to hold the pads in place. That said dishtowel would work in a pinch, but I wouldn't consider it a dishtowel again after that, yuck

I use menstrual cups - I got my Yuuki about 4 months ago, and it's been awesome so far. On the Livejournal community people posted about a "steep learning curve", but for me I've had pretty much no issues aside from it almost overflowing due to my fail sense of time.

Disposable pads and tampons.

Right now, I use mostly disposable tampons, but I've been wanting to try reusable cups and pads for a while. You go through so much money buying tampons, especially for people like me who bleed A LOT, and I've always wondered how much money I'd save a year by switching to reusables...

Seeing or cleaning a reusable pad or tampon doesn't bother me at all. I don't know why it would. I know everyone's had to touch something 'yucky' in their lifetime and I'm pretty sure every woman has at least one pair of bloodstained granny panties hidden away at the bottom of their underwear drawer.

Disposable tampons. But when my supply of them runs out (which will not be too soon) - I'm planning to buy a reusable menstrual cup.
02/01/2011
I get 4 fairly light periods a year, so disposable pads work just fine for me. I only end up using like, 4 each period, and then a handful of panty liners.

Kudos to you ladies using resusable items. Menstrual cups irritate the tissue and the thought of washing pads to reuse is very unappealing to me. Disposable pads is the only thing that hasn't irritated me or caused an infection of some sort.

Disposable pads and tampons, but I'm looking into getting a reusable cup before my next period.

Pads and tampons. Wth menstrual cup?
02/01/2011
Got my Diva Cup about 3 weeks ago. It worked great... no leaks... but I had the hardest damned time getting it out. I suppose I'll get the hang of it eventually. I usually use disposable liners the rest of the month (childbirth messed with my ability to not pee myself when coughing/laughing/snee zing), save for the one Lunapad I have and adore. I want more cloth pads because they're so much more comfortable. (And I cloth diaper my son, so washing them doesn't squigg me out.) And I do have an IUD and I didn't yank it out, so I'm guessing I'm fine. Just have to make sure you break that seal. Otherwise, too, you wouldn't be able to get it out comfortably anyway.

I've never seen menstrual cups or any reusable stuff in shops here, where I live. So I'm stuck with disposable pads As for tampons - they are just not my thing, I use them only if I have to go training.

I bought mine on Amazon. I tested it out last night and it was quite comfortable, didn't notice it. Now we'll see how it does with leaks once I get my period. I gotta say, though, that I'm quite interested in knowing how to break the seal without spilling everywhere, but other than that... I'm quite I'm excited to use it. I'm quite looking forward to not wearing a diaper and not have a tampon sticking out when it gets soaked.

If you have any sewing skills making pads isn't terribly difficult, If you do a search for patterns there are several hubs with links to several different types of cloth pad and instructions on how to make them.

A very basic pattern I wish to try but haven't yet uses two small wash cloths stacked and sewn together so that the bottom cloth can be folded in thirds and the top cloth forms a cover and wings, for waterproofing a piece of waterproof cloth is sewn on one third of the folded cloth so that it is on the bottom of the pad after folding.
If that isn't absorbent enough you can fold a third cloth and place it in the center of the folded half of the pad, it will stay put without needing to be sewn in.

Pads for me! I am still afraid of using tampons But, pads work for me. I never feel like I am wearing a diaper when I have one on.

I used pads at first - They are just too... Gross .... *shudders* its like a diaper, and if your heavy and cannot get to a bathroom to change it just gets mushy and uncomfortable. Cannot!
I switched to tampons my senior year in hs. Much better! I feel cleaner, i feel fresher, and more sanitary. But again, as of the past 4 yrs I havent had a period.
But I will have to get used to the idea soon -- I want to have another kid within the next few years. So gonna have to let the depo get out of my system.

I have had my Diva Cup for a little over a year and I love it! My body can't stand to have a tampon in it now; it really just hurts. I just bought some cloth pads on Etsy, so I'll have those for my next cycle. I don't really bleed at night so there's not a lot of point in putting my cup back in for the night, but I don't want to risk ruining my underwear and sheets if my body decided to throw me a curve ball.
