I shampoo my hair only once during a shower. But recently I have had to shampoo twice because of the hairspray I started using. I'm sort of afraid that all this shampooing will dry out my hair. What do you do? And what do you think?

You could follow up using a good conditioner to help moisturize your hair so that it doesn't dry out or try changing hairsprays

Like Ryanne suggested, I use a conditioner and that seems to moisturize my hair really well so I only shampoo once during a shower.

I actually lather my hair up 3 times when I wash it. (But I only wash mine 3 times a week.) Other things that affect the health of your hair are conditioners (I use both a rinse out and a leave-in) and then heated styling (both blow dryers and heated styling tools).

I use a weekly conditioning treatment and also condition every time I shampoo. I have waist length hair and need the added moisturizers.

I only shampoo once during a shower.

unless i've been to the pool or the beach, i only shampoo once. and then i use a lot of conditioner

I'd be more worried about the hair spray damaging my hair in that situation, so I'd probably switch that before I changed my shampooing habits.

once

I don't really need added moisturizers anymore, but only because I cut my hair. The ladies at the salon were shocked when I said I wanted to cut it all off. They told me it was the most beautiful hair they had ever seen and they would kill to have hair like mine, but at least mine was going for a good cause. (Locks of love.) I had hair that was down to my lower back. It was just about touching my butt crack. I cut it off to right above the shoulders.
Anyhow, I use to shampoo once and condition my hair twice. Once in a while I would do a hot oil treatment, but that was all. Now, the only difference is I condition once.

I shampoo once usually, but as you said, when I use hair care products like styling gel, hairspray, etc, I normally shampoo at least twice, but I always put conditioner in after.

I just do it once and if my hair isn't dirty, I don't always shampoo daily. It really does dry out your hair and scalp. For the record, I don't use any products on a regular basis and I have long hair.

I shampoo once except on very rare occasions. I would be more worried about the damage from the hair spray.

Shampoo once every other day

I shampoo twice a week and usually only lather up once, sometimes twice if I feel it's really dirty. I'd be concerned about the ingredients in the hairspray more than the shampooing causing a problem. Though, less is really more when it comes to washing hair. It's a good idea to eliminate sulfates and parabens from your haircare routines. Sulfates are very harsh drying for your hair and may be carcinogenic. There's evidence that absorption of sulfates through our skin can cause a build up of them in or internal organs. EEP! Sulfates are included in our shampoos and other sudsy products because they produce lots of bubbles. They also strip things off of our hair. This is necessary when using products that contain silicones. Though most cosmetic silicones aren't, in themselves, harmful, sulfate free shampoos can't always strip the silicones out of your hair so when using a silicone free shampoo, you have to make sure your conditioner and styling products are silicone free. Silicones make our hair really shiny at first but a build up of silicone that isn't being washed out, ultimately dulls hair and makes it become oily faster and may cause a sticky or brittle texture. This may sound like a big hassel, but really, once I cut the sulfates, parabens, and silicones out of my haircare and reduced washing to twice a week, my hair is a lot less problematic for me! Looks and feels healthier and is a lot more manageable and holds style better.

I wash my hair twice a week and lather it up twice. I always use a good conditioner! I also recently discovered moroccan oil which you leave in and that keeps my hair from being dry or frizzy, but doesnt make it dirty or oily faster the way some products do.

Shampoo once and ask you stylist about a new hairspray.

shampoo once then conditioner
09/05/2012
I shampoo my hair once a night. Try a conditioner for dry hair.
09/05/2012
The shampoo I use is very mild, so I wouldn't hesitate to use it twice.
09/05/2012
I wash and condition my hair once a day, and lather once per shower. I don't typically use any other products on my hair.
09/05/2012
Shampoo twice if you really have to, but try to stick with once and a round of conditioning.

I shampoo two to three times when I shower. I always start with an anti-dandruff shampoo. If I'm going three times, I do a moisturising shampoo next, then a volumising shampoo. (So that I get moisture -and- protein.) If I'm only doing two shampoos, I will do one or the other (I rotate it), or I use the protein shampoo on my scalp down to my neck, then the moisture shampoo on my length.
After all of that, I condition. I use a range of conditioners down the length of my hair. If I want to condition my hair, roots to neck, I will use my lightest conditioner. Usually, though, I leave that part of my hair free of conditioner. From my neck to my chest, I use a heavier conditioner. From my chest to my hips I use an even heavier conditioner. And from my hips to the ends I use my heaviest conditioner. Then I let it sit whilst I finish up anything else before I rinse.
However, I rarely use hairspray or gel-- only when I put my hair up in a bandana. The only other products I use on a semi-regularly basis (mainly.. only if I remember to use it) is some smoothing cream I got for free one day. It's mainly oils and silicones. It smells pretty good, but I'm probably not likely to buy it again. I don't know if it really smooths (I use way less than the recommended amount, and I probably have three times as much hair than the recommended amount is supposed to cover) but it does make my hair feel a bit softer. I can get pretty much the same feeling with a little bit of coconut oil, so I don't see the need to spend five bucks on a bottle of that stuff. (If you do use coconut oil, though, you need to make sure to start with verrrry little. I tried swiping a good spoonful of it through my hair the first time I used it. Holy frick was my hair a greasy mess.)

Just once

I shampoo once, sometimes twice, depending on what products I had used like hairspray, etc.

Okay, as a guy I've actually had this problem. The cheapest fix is to buy some conditioner. The best fix I found, though, was to try several other hair products until I found one that worked like I wanted it to and wasn't detrimental to my hair.

Cat E.
I only have to shampoo once. I don't use any hair products. When I was a teen in the early 90s, I had used some VO5 hairspray in my bangs and it took many washings for it to wash out.
