I prefer female simply because I feel more comfortable that way.
Do you prefer a male or female gynecologist, or does it not matter?

I prefer a female for general checkups and the like...but if she ever happened to find a problem and had to refer me to a specialist I would go in a heartbeat (the most popular doctor at my office is a man...who is HIGHLY regarded for Oncologic problems). Let's all hope that never happens though!

I've had both and it doesn't really matter to me.

I prefer a female gynecologist

Female but, usually have male.

Gender doesn't really matter to me, as long as they're good doctors. Before I moved, my OB/GYN office had 2 male OB/GYNs, a female OB/GYN, and a female nurse practitioner/midwife. For regular visits, I preferred the female OB/GYN just because her personality meshed best with mine. But for prenatal appointments they had me rotate through all four of them, so I'd be comfortable with whichever one was on call when I went into labor. No major issues with any of them, although one of the guys' bedside manner left a little to be desired.

female, because males here have to have a female present in the room when doing exams and id rather only have one person.

I prefer a female. But sometimes we can't get what we want.

It is creepy enough having a pap smear and getting spread like a thanksgiving turkey without some potentially hot male doc doing the spreading. I also find that i like the older female gyno's the best, they seem to listen and be a little more compassionate than younger docs.

Female for sure. I would refuse a male Dr due to something that happened to me in the past.

I prefer female.

Their experience and reputation as a doctor is what matters most to me, not their gender.

I have had both and they seemed equal in the care I received. However the OB/GYN that took care of me during my pregnancies and did my hysterectomy was the only doctor I would trust to take care of my daughter when it came time for her to get her first pap smear. He was so gentle and caring with her. He talked her through it and took his time to ensure she stayed intact and he aloud me to be in the room. Even though he didn't deliver her because I was care flown to another hospital he knows every detail of her creation and remembers that pregnancy that was almost 20 years ago. My daughter asked him questions about why he chose to be a doctor and why did he choose to be an OB/GYN and he answered her as if she was an equal and not a child. I was impressed with him all over again. Have any of you had similar experiences?

Doesnt matter

I prefer male doctors in general. I don't know why, I just do and always have!

I prefer a female gyno (seeing as that's what I have and I love her to death), but I'll see a guy if I have to. During the end of my last pregnancy my regular doctor was sick, so in the final week leading up to labor, and when I first arrived at the hospital, I had to see one of the other doctors in her practice, who happened to be a male.
Normally it would've weirded me out, but by that point I was too miserable to care. Luckily, my own doctor was able to make it to the actual delivery.

I've actually only ever seen a female GYN, but I'd be open to having a male doctor. I think it really depends on the individual. If a doctor is willing to take the time to listen to me and to my concerns and to explain things, I'll work with them.
My main concern is avoiding the doctors with god complexes who think they know everything better than you (even if they've just met you and you are telling them about something with your body). This wasn't a GYN, but I once had a (male) doctor tell me that I was an "anxious person" (I'm actually not) because I was concerned about the heart arrhythmias I was experiencing at the time (before the tests were done showing that they were benign).

If possible I would prefer a female, but I have no issues with intimate exams with a male.

It's not important to me. A doctor is a doctor, and as long as it's a good doctor, gender doesn't matter. It's a totally sexless, sterile situation when you go to get your check ups. They see and touch thousands of female bodies throughout their careers. It's their job, nothing more.

I've had both and it doesn't matter to me so long I feel comfortable with the person. My first doc made fun of my socks mid-Pap once and I switched docs. I was 17 at the time and really not comfortable with that. The woman I've been going to for the last few years is great. She's a doc at my school though so I'll have to find a new one once I graduate.

I've only had females, do not feel comfortable with a male

It doesn't matter. I've preferred the male doctors I've seen but that didn't have anything to do with their gender. To me its just a doctor, it's their job and they've been trained to see it all.
