How concerned are you about how safe your lubricants are?

Contributor: clp clp
I do look into the list, and try to research the best options beforehand so I don't have to worry about it later. I still would like to make use of the cheap/free lube samples, though. Guilty!

Now that I know I'm allergic to KY, I tried to make sure all my lubes are safe no matter what, because it can cause a bad reaction.

I personally don't have anal sex, and it's upsetting to see that most water based lubes have higher toxicity, as frankly I use silicone toys too much to use silicone lube.

WOW!

I'll stick with Maximus, thanks.
It is not listed as formaldehyde though. It is listed under other names like diazolidinyl urea which slowly release formaldehyde.

I create my own lubes now out of guar gum and hot water for personal use. I wouldn't suggest using it with woman because Im unsure If this could cause an infection.

Indeed, but that's really cool that you make your own

Water-based lubes need to have some sort of preservative in them, whereas silicone doesn't have anything beasties can live on and oil doesn't have the water.

Some water-based lubes are better than others, and you can get some in powder form that you mix up as needed and keep in the refrigerator.

I like using Surgi-Lube. It's thick, sterile, water-based and free of any weird petro-chemicals. I grab a tube from my gyno's office every now and then. It's what they use for procedures and ultrasounds. Great stuff; best lube I've ever used for vaginal and oral sex.

A close second is Astroglide gel. The only downside about Astro Gel is that when it dries, you can peel it off, kind of like Elmer's glue. But as long as you clean up properly, it won't be a problem.

Never put much thought to it, but will have to in the future.

Certainly makes ya think about what ya use. Have been very choosy when it comes to the materials my toys are made of but hadnt paid too much attention to lube until recently.

Surgi-Lube was the model for sex lubes according to some sources. The big problem is that it isn't designed for longer encounters and tends to dry out easier.

I use organic, vegan lubes.

You only get one vag. Might as well be good to it.

We usually read the label to make sure it's at least not sticky. We also usually try to find one that's more Ph balanced to ensure pleasure for both of us.

I'm pretty cautious about what lubes I use. I have extremely sensitive skin and have had some mishaps in the past with some other body products. Definitely read the ingredient list. :3

I am very concerned, since my vagina is very sensitive and breaks out in rashes and yeast infections very easily.

It's always good sense to look at the ingredients list and choose products with as few chemicals and artificial ingredients as possible... that goes for anything... food, makeup, household cleaners etc.

Definitely pay attention to what's in it. Prefer the more natural stuff but will try others based on recommendations.

We stick to a select few, and they've been good to us so far. Maybe if we see something new we want to try, I'll check. But I'm not that concerned.

I'm in the same boat! Alan wanted to try a new lube for when we use penis sleeves together, but after doing a patch test on my inner arm I wound up with a big red burning mark. The darned thing still stings and I can't figure out which ingredient did it.

I'm not that concerned about sugar in my lube - got a steel vagina but I now refuse to use any lubes that have any of the Parabens in it.

I'm on a health kick at the moment (perhaps cause I'm getting older), so I'm also trying to purchase shampoos, conditioners and soaps without Parabens and Tetrasodium in them - they aren't easy to find!
