I personally wouldn't for mine except as a gag gift.
Would you buy your mother a sex toy?
01/09/2012
I'm buying my mom a bunch of kama sutra stuff (Her first anniversary is coming up, but they are both too timid to buy things themselves so I figured I'd give 'em a hand.) so I don't really think there's anything wrong with it. Maybe you could go with a gift card instead, if you're worried.

I've been seriously considering buying my mom a new vibrator. We had a recent conversation about vibrators and other sex toys, and it turns out her only vibrator is from Sears... SHE BOUGHT IT IN 1985! I'm amazed it still works, but think it would be a good idea to find her a new one.

I've often been tempted, but then reality gets in the way. My mother is very shy, easily embarrassed, and isn't exactly what you would call "sex positive". She owns a freaking back massager that looks like a drugstore Hitachi knockoff and I am 99.8% sure that she uses it AS A BACK MASSAGER. If I got her something really nice and vibratey and told her what it was actually for? She'd probably tell me that I've been tainted by society and blah blah blah... more trouble than it's worth.

I've been thinking that if there was ever a gift she might actually have a great time with, it would be a great vibrator. As far as I know she doesn't use one. She's not internet savvy and I can't see her venturing into a sex shop. I can imagine mothers buying their teen daughters a vibe. But in general I've never had a relationship like that with my mum. I'm not meant to imagine my parents as sexual beings, am I? I don't even know if my dad would be happy about my mum getting a vibe, and he'd probably wonder where she'd got it, lol! Could open a whole tin of worms!
Still I can't help but think it is an awesome concept. A gift of a good vibe seems to be something just so much more, for so many reasons. I'm guessing whatever I get for her would have to be non-intimidating, luxury, pretty and discreet.
I hope I haven't made you all scream internally with the concept. This is a pretty fresh thought right now and I'm pretty happy making my own decision. But I thought I'd open your minds and get your thoughts on whether you'd buy a sex toy for your own mum.

NOPE.

Depends on how "cool" your mom is!
Mine isn't. I have strongly considered buying my mother a "Faith" vibe (the pink ribbon breast cancer one) since her mother had breast cancer and a percentage goes to that cause. That way I can always laugh off what it is if it's awkward and maybe she'd be less embarrassed (ie teasing me) to recieve it, since it's for a good cause.
Maybe Faith would be a good first one for your mum?

even though i know she has them i would never do that lol
03/17/2012
Yep! If she were alive I would. As a child going through her drawers, I found a OLD SCHOOL vibrator she had. So I know she has used one. Once my daughter is a grown woman, I would accept a toy from her as gag gift.
03/17/2012
My mother and I aren't close at all, so I wouldn't give her a toy. But I have given her the Eden tote bag and calendar. She liked those.
03/29/2012
She definitely doesn't need my help.
03/29/2012
It would certainly mke for an interesting dinner table conversation...
03/30/2012
Would be too strange
04/02/2012
If you can get up the nerve to buy one for your mother than I say go for it! But personally my mother is in her 60's I wouldn't feel comfortable buying her a vibe.
04/02/2012
It depends on your mother, how close you are to her, and how YOU think she would react. I personally would never get a sex toy for my mom because she's not exactly sex positive. However, your mom could be completely different, so...

Maybe if it was the sort of thing we talked about together

We never even had the sex talk growing up, so there is no way. I do know she owns some though, we found them as kids snooping around.

Nope, I wouldn't do so myself.
