Which of these two terms do you prefer?

I think they're two different words with different meanings. Just because one is more "vulgar" than the other doesn't mean changing the spelling makes it any less-so.

cum: the signal that you can finally stop masturbating or pumping

come: moving, arriving.

Of course, that means that "cummed" is now a word too...since "came" is the past tense of "come".

I come (no pun intended) at the question from a slightly different view point. Ever since I figured out how to have non-ejaculatory orgasm I've looked for a way to succinctly differentiate them from a normal ejaculatory orgasm in writing. If I'm writing something where both I tend to use cum when referring to an ejaculatory orgasm and come when referring to a non-ejaculatory orgasm.

You cannot make me say or type "Cummed"... I am against it.

But I totally think of cum as "cum", because I like to differentiate. Although, ya know ,even given my job, I actually rarely type "cum". Weird. A non-issue for me, after all.

I spell it as "come". Like the original poster said, "cum" just seems very vulgar and trashy. And -- no offense intended to anyone -- it also smacks of uneducated. To me, anyway.

For me, it's both. I use the term "cum" to describe the substance, as in "your cum," but when a person is in the act of coming, I use "to come," or "coming," etc.

Example: Are you coming? Have you ... more
This, exactly.

I like 'cum' as a noun for both male and female ejaculate. To me it just looks wrong and silly to use 'come' as a noun. I only use 'cum' as a verb to describe the act of ejaculating... which is usually accompanied by orgasm, but (especially for women), not always.

I use either term interchangeably. Cum sounds a bit more "hardcore" and, in most situations, I just say "orgasm". I like that word. It's funny to say like avacado. Yep, I have a list of favorite words, and cum/come are hand in ... more
LOL I was wondering if I was the only one who just likes saying certain words (like clitoris instead of clit)! I like typing orgasm...dunno why just an odd quirk.

I use come to describe orgasming and cum to describe actual ejaculate.

Using the word 'cum' bothers the heck out of me but I use it since I often run out of synonyms for orgasm or describing the whole event.

I will never use 'cummed' though. The English major in me is adamantly against it. I cringe at the very thought. I use 'came' when the orgasm is already clearly defined as having happened or happening.

... and I like Sundae's opinion on it.

I don't know, I use "cum" for present, "will cum" for future and "came for past. I see no conflict! Although "cummed" is pretty funny.

Usually I just say orgasm. Sometimes I'll use "cum" for orgasm or for semen, depending, but never come. It actually annoys me a bit when people use "come" for something sexual and "cum" for something non-sexual.

I don't use the word cum or come in my reviews typically. I use "finish" or orgasm. BUT I voted cum...however, lol I use "cum" to describe ejaculate and "come" is the action of cumming...

Did that make sense lol?

I rarely use either one when I'm writing. In a review, I usually just use "orgasm." On my blog and in conversations online, I generally use "come" if I'm going to use either term.

Strangely enough, though, if I'm reading I usually prefer to read "cum." I'm not sure why, because I never really though about it before now. I guess it's because it's so much more unambiguous, regardless of context. There is only one meaning for "cum." I don't use it partly because it feels... off. It's not part of my written "voice," if that makes any sense. While "damn," "fuck," "dick," and even the occasional "pussy" work, me typing out "cum" feels, to me, as out of place as my sweet little grandma saying "fuck" or "methyltransferase" or "PCMIA eSATA converter."

And, like all things with language, this will probably change. So when this thread next surfaces in a few months, I'll probably have a different answer. ^_^

Funny enough, this is one of the things Alan and I butt heads about when we're writing our reviews. He's fond of the word "cum", while I'm not unless I'm in a really raunchy mood.

To me, they're two different things: come is the verb referring to the act and cum is the noun referring to what is produced. Maybe that's just me though (haven't read through the rest of the posts)

I prefer "come." It arrives in our language from the older term "come to orgasm." Which makes a lot of sense. It didn't used to bother me, until my Buddies Em&Lo stated their disgust with the term "cum" and their distaste with even the term "come" preferring "orgasm" or other terms. They think the words "come" or "cum" are overused and better words should substitute. Not sure why, but it struck a cord with me.

Come or cum can be confusing, because the word(s) can be an verb or a noun.

My Man used to interchangeably use "ejaculate" for "orgasm" until he had a dry orgasm. Now, he realizes that what I've been talking about forever, that "ejaculate" and "orgasm" are actually separate events in a man. He also uses the word "jiz" a lot, which some people cringe to hear, but it makes me laugh. He was saying, "I jizzed in my pants." for very random things (kidding around) long before the viral video. Like when his favorite oranges were on sale at the grocery store, or he takes a bite of food he likes a lot. He's a strange guy.

The creepiest word for a lot of people is "spunk" and I NEVER use it. (I just did.)

I do, too. I HATE when people type "organism" and mean orgasm. Even worse is when they SAY it!!!!

We need a "palm to face" smiliey.

Yeah, I always thought "come" was the act of having an orgasm and "cum" referred to the ejaculate. I have no clue where I got that idea from, though. In all honesty, I don't use either word. I prefer climax and spunk.

I prefer cum when you are discussing that actually act of it and it's totally nasty, but I didn't realize you say the other when talking about it.

I have secretly wondered about that before, and yet couldn't put it into words. Sometimes I think "cum" sometimes I think "come." What I find cute is when my husband says he "cummed" only I'm thinking he "comed!" It's a very interesting thought.

I find myself leaning a bit more towards using more "offical/clinical" type terms - orgasm, semen, etc. It seems a bit stilted at times, but on the other hand I'm trying to write in a way that would be comfortable to everyone who is using the site, including those who are interested in sex toys but who might prefer a certain distance from sexual activities.

And then at other times it seems too stilted (usually in the forums), so I'll roll out some slang.

"Cum" is always associated with sex, and when I see the word spelled that way, it gets me all excited LOL. "Come" is just way too generic in my book and you can't differentiate the meaning of the word when used.

If I had to use one or the other, id use "Cum", because its universally known, and not easily to be confused mid-sentence.
