I think that is a great way to look at the voting system. But in my opinion the "Worth reading, but not useful" and the "Not useful at all" should not even be there. Now I am a new user that’s only been here about a month and a half but I have taken the time to go through and read a lot of reviews so I can better mine and in my eyes every review is useful in some way or another. Anyways enough of going off topic, I don’t think I would even notice if I was being down voted but if I did I don’t think I would do anything.

There was one person who gave me a poorerish vote, and I messaged them about it. They calmly walked me through some of the reasons they gave me a low vote and I agreed with them on it.

Helped to make my next review better.

I figure, as long as the person who gave the lower rating is willing to say why, it is all good.

I see the rating system as this

extremely useful: Something above and beyond just "good"

useful: a good job

somewhat useful: an adequate job, but might need some improvement and additional information

worth reading, but not useful: needs to go back, read other people's reviews and learn more about the reviewing process

not useful at all: not a good review in any way

As a rule, honest ratings don't bother me at all. Sometimes one of my reviews simply may not hit a regular reader as "extremely useful" if it's a regular, and I know they are honest and do good reviews themselves, it doesn't bother me at all, because they KNOW what goes into a review.

It bugs me when people who write NO reviews themselves and never participate in the forums go around and rate other's reviews, and most of these people usually give pretty low ratings. There are a few who seem to do nothing but hang around and rate some people very low (usually the reviewers who have high ratings) and seem to rate seemingly inadequate reviews as "extremely useful." Are these people with two or more identities? Those who are not doing a good job and trying to bring down good reviews to raise their own rating? We've seen this before.

Some of these people also seem to vote others into the "Advanced Reviewer" category. Really THINK about the quality of the reviews before you vote someone to be Advanced The reviewers are the face of Eden, and poor reviews don't help the site nor anyone else.

I know we need to allow shoppers to rate reviews, but they may not realize what goes into to REALLY good review. Two systems? One for the casual shopper, and those who have not submitted reviews and do not participate in the forums, and one for regulars who KNOW how much work goes into a good review? That might be too much for the site to have to deal with. I don't know.

What if only members or advanced reviewers could vote? It might discourage people who are here to shop. But, those not familiar with the site or the intricacies of sex toys and their materials and functions seem to be more harsh in their rating.

I JUST NOTICED THIS. My ranking went down just today. I assumed it was because I haven't reviewed much lately (school and whatnot), but after looking at my reviews, I noticed a lot of downvotes that weren't there before. Honestly I'm a little offended. I mean, I understand my poor ratings on my first two reviews as I was new and all that, but I worked hard to improve my review quality. I don't appreciate people downvoting out of laziness/spite/whateve r. >.<

I get that a lot to. I wish they would comment why they casted such a low vote. It irks me. But I guess it is silly to have my feelings hurt over a dildo review. But I do, I put a lot of time into my reviews.

Everyone out there: If you down vote, please leave an explanation why, so I as well as others can fix it next time around.

I don't get into too much on the personal experience. The toy is simply not going to work for you as it did for me. I like to elaborate more on the toy itself, so the consumer can make an informed purchase on what they are buying.
I don't want someone to buy something and have them be disappointed because it didn't blow their mind like it did mine. I think that's reasonable.
But, I am curious how you feel about this. If you think personal experience is more important then the material, texture, speeds, etc let me know.

I got downvoted to "worth reading, but not useful" on a review that had two "useful" ratings and well over twenty "extremely useful" ratings. I feel like I keep getting targeted for downvoting for some reason. This is really upsetting.

I agree and I know it's hard to watch all those dopes down voting everyone for no reason.

The way I vote is that if I really liked a review and it gave me a good idea of the product, extremely useful.

If it had good info but just didn't answer what I was looking for I will go useful.

I try to go easy on those newer to reviews, but if someone appears to have just slapped something together without even trying I will vote low.

It is rare that I ever rate less than useful.

I also agree with that whole separate system deal, but I am 90% positive that would just be too much work. Luckily us regs can take out all the trolls and point farmers when it comes to rating our fellow peers.

There seems to be an influx of Revenge Voting lately. I'm sorry this happened to you. I've seen it, too.

As far as I know, the Admins seem to be aware of who is doing it.

If it's the same people over and over send a PM to one of the review Admins if it looks like Revenge Voting. Revenge voting (down voting people because the reviewer didn't like their votes or their comments) is against the rules and is usually dealt with pretty swiftly.

I've noticed a couple of times that someone has given a review a much lower rating than everyone else. When I look at that person's wall, I see that they voted on multiple people's reviews of the same product one right after the other with less than a minute in between. Clearly they have some objective other than honest voting. And when this happens it seems that they rate reviews inverse relationship to the reviewer's rank. Maybe they're trying to even out everyone's rank.

Recently, on a review with a lot of EU votes, someone left an effusively positive comment then voted 'not useful at all.' I'm wondering whether the person thought you were supposed to vote whether the product would be useful.

That happened to me today. Someone put not useful but worth reading when all my other reviews are extremely useful. What sence does that make? So I decided.. to go look at their reviews and I rated them haha! I was honest.. and I left comments.

Wow. I've wanted to message a person who gave me a low rating on a review once. I was kind of thinking she did it as a revenge thing, but unsure. Anyways, I was too afraid to ask for a reason. I do like knowing if I've done something wrong or left something out as long as the person's being helpful not critical I think it's a nice thing. I like that you said you are happy to provide your reasoning for your ratings. I'm glad you rate honestly too. That's always a plus! I don't like rating untruthfully. I wouldn't rate low without very good reasoning.

We would most likely message them, or do nothing depending on the circumstance. I agree that asking the person to see what you can do to better your review, or what they didn't like, etc would make you a better reviewer in the end. Maybe depending on the review option chosen, it can prompt them to automatically submit a message to the reviewer telling them this is why they voted the way they did, but that would be optional as some may not want to do it.

I have never felt down voted, however I have been disappointed with some of my votes on reviews in which I thought were great. I realize everyone has different opinions and read the reviews for questions they have about an item, so when I feel I haven't received the votes I thought I should get, I re-read my review and try to figure out what I needed to include to help the reader. Sometimes it works and other times I feel like there was nothing more I could have said.

I have seen a few "down votes" on my own reviews, but I just assume those that voted farther down than the rest ("somewhat useful" chaps me a bit, I worked hard on that!), just didn't understand/like my point of view for that product, or had a different experience than I did with the same product.

On the other hand...I voted a review yesterday as "not worth reading" because it was little more than a few short sentences and had absolutely no information about the product in it. It was also running rampant with typos and grammar errors (which I "down voted" the editor on as well).

With the availability of a Word program (I write all my reviews in Word to catch major spelling and grammar errors with) and someone else reading each review (or that's the way it is supposed to work), the completely useless reviews should never make site. But, that's just my humble opinion. Also, the "extended" review form should be the only option...I find myself more annoyed by the short reviews because they are almost always missing vital information (Okay, the c-ring didn't stretch "much"...how much DID it stretch though?)!

I generally assume they have a reason for it, and if they vote lowly, then they usually leave a comment explaining why, which I think is nice.

There was one time that I kind of got mad, because someone voted my review "somewhat useful" then she told me that she only voted that low because they product was too expensive, so she didn't want it.
I think that's not exactly fair. If you say I wrote an excellent review, and described the product well, you shouldn't down vote just because the item costs too much.
