I think going to the cinema gives you something to talk about when you leave, especially if you don't know the person very well.

I think it's a lousy date, BUT if it is just to start off (and meet in a public place if you met online) then I think it's okay as long as you are going to have food or take a walk, etc. to talk afterwards. To just go to a movie and nothing else would be a sucky date!

For a first date you should do something that let's you talk and get to know each other, like going to dinner, coffee, taking a walk in a park, something like that. Movies are good dates after you've been on a few dates when you just want to be around each other. I wish that relationships could always be that exciting glow that the first few months are.

I dont going to the movies as a first date. you cant really do much.
going to a concert as a first date is alot of fun
you can focus on the band but focus on one another at the same time & share something with that person forever (me and my bf went to a concert in a different state as our first date and I would have to say it was the best)

I think they're fine if you know the person from somewhere else and have had the chance to talk to them a little before. It's what I did on my first date with current boyfriend, though we did wander around a bit afterwards.
