All i have to say is they are going to do it, we cant stop them all!! Wouldn't we rather them be safe if they do it than get some 12 year old girl pregnant? if i had a son and i knew he was having sex i would want these around. I don't condone sex that young for sure but we cant always stop our children.
XS Condom for 12 Year Old Boys? Ethical? Disturbing?

Do I think 12 year olds should be having sex? No. Do 12 year olds have sex? Yes and they should do it with a condom.

I would personally prefer my 12 year old (theoretically) to be abstainant, but I know kids are having sex at that age, and while they are it's better to help them and their partners stay safe than ignore it or punish it and hope it goes away. I don't think it will encourage kid sex any more than having clean needles encourages people to do drugs... people will do what they want, but it's best to make those choices as safe as possible.

" A leading condom manufacturer in Switzerland has created extra-small condoms for boys as young as 12 years old, the U.K.’s Daily Telegraph reported.
The condom, called the Hotshot, was produced after family planning groups and the Swiss AIDS Federation campaigned to have the condoms made following several studies that showed adolescent boys were not using proper protection when engaging in intercourse.
"The result that shocked us concerned young boys who display apparently risky behavior,” Nancy Bodmer, who headed the research, told the newspaper. “They have more of a tendency not to protect themselves. They do not have a very developed sexual knowledge. They do not understand the consequences of what they are doing and leave the young girls to take care of the consequences.”
Bodmer said the results of the study suggest that early prevention makes sense.
A spokeswoman for the company, Lamprecht AG, said the United Kingdom would be a “top priority” if they expanded abroad, especially since the U.K. has one of the highest rates of teen pregnancy in Europe.
A standard condom has a diameter of 2 inches; the Hotshot's is 1.7 inches."

Must be a problem with 12yr olds having sex for them to be making condoms specifically for young boys. But if it is a problem and there's a market for the condoms, go for it. Safe sex if better than unsafe. Especially if children as young as 12 are choosing to engage in it. They have no idea of the consequences sex can have.
07/21/2012
The name is definitely disturbing. I believe that no matter how much you tell your children that they need to wait for sex, they are highly influenced by their peers, the media, etc. Teen pregnancy and STDs are a huge concern these days. I don't think that providing condoms to kids is going to encourage them to have sex. But if they are going to have sex, they are going to do it with or without a condom so they might as well have protection.
07/21/2012
Switzerland and the Netherlands have some of the lowest rates of teen pregnancy in large part due to their comprehensive sex education. Should people be having sex at 12? Probably not. But most people who are making bad decisions like sex at 12 won't be affected by whether or not they have proper condoms. Now you're just adding another thing on top of the first mistake.
07/23/2012
Why do they have to be specifically for 12 year olds? what do adults with really small penises buy?
07/23/2012
Disturbing. I understand if they're going to do it, they should have protection available..... But when you're that young, sex shouldn't be on your mind to the extent of actually acting it out.
10/04/2012
The idea I like. The name "Hot Shot" is not exactly a great choice
10/08/2012
I think it's a good thing to have available. I'm not saying that 12 year olds should be having sex, but some do. And if they do, they should have protection available. Also, it says it should fit those "as young as 12," not that they are made just for preteens. The smaller sizing is also great for guys who are less well-endowed and of course older teens. Proper sizing makes condoms more effective as well. Don't like the name, though.

It's disturbing that boys that young are sexually active but it's best to make condoms for them so they don't get a girl pregnant or give/get STD's :\

Good god. When I was 12, I thought sex, kissing, and love were gross. What the hell is wrong with people these days? I blame the parents!!! >.<

I don't, however, agree with the name "Hotshot." Young boys are so concerned about being "cool" that it just sounds like the kind of thing that might encourage them to become sexually active at a younger age. less

I think they should be sized, not say "Made for 12 year olds! Because you don't even have acne yet."
I don't like the idea, though. Seriously..12? I have never heard of anyone I know having sex at 12. Usually around 14 is when I start to hear.
