should trans gender people be allowed to use the opposite sex locker rooms that are shared by children?

The only problem I'd personally have, is the children making comments about how the girl in the skirt looks a lot like a boy etc and the fact that they just wouldn't understand the whole transsexual/transgende r thing until later in life.

I see your point, but most trans genders dress as the sex they feel they are and have been fighting for equal rights like this for a long time. I highly doubt that any trans gender person would expose themsevles with kids in a room. As for your ... more
Well put! I absolutely agree.
Additionally, unless someone were personally acquainted with the trans person, who would know anyway? Even in the male locker rooms of the gyms I've been in, there are private booths for changing, if you so choose.

So in the news today, a big city in my state has let and will continue to let trans-gender people use the locker rooms of the opposite sex they where born, at swimming pools when children are present. So a guy that dresses as a girl can go into the ... more
It is a hard thing to either say yes or no. Not only are those people being judged in the locker room of their own sex, but they would be in the other room as well. I am sure that this will be exploited, but hope for many people's sake that it is regulated somehow. I personally would not have a problem if I knew the person was for sure, but seeing a man figure in the bathroom might bother me a little, but you have to remember that transgender people see themselves as the other sex and are not just trying to be pervs. I have a best friend who is gay and we were discussing several things that happens just because of that. I asked if he was going to donate, but he said no. When I asked why he said that gays are not allowed to donate because apparently the blood drive people feel that gays are more likely to get a STI or STD... I just thought that was very sad because he is a great guy and wanted to help but couldn't because people who are not heterosexual get treated differently.

IMO, true transgenders should use the restrooms or locker rooms of the gender with which they identify. It's going to be "weird" for some people regardless of which locker room it is, so you'd might as well make it easier for the ... more

Anyway, most children are more open than adults when it comes to trans* issues if you explain them. They'll ask a few questions and leave it at that, even if they said something ignorant first out of surprise. Though, it's only my own life experience, it might depends on your area.
Also, pervs and sex offenders can be cis people of the same gender as you are.
And for those who just don't want to be seen naked, then it might be weird but cis people can also see you naked if you're actually naked. Just use individual changing room if possible or ask someone you trust to hide you with a towel or something.

I'm sure a lot of other people have already told you off about this, but I don't feel like reading every comment.

Transgender people are NOT "men who dress as women". You mean a person BORN male who IDENTIFIES AND PRESENTS as a woman, SHE IS A WOMAN regardless of her born body. There is no reason to not allow her into the proper dressing/washroom, it's easy to explain it to a kid if you need to. Perverts and sex offenders have nothing to do with transgender.

As a very very kid I was taken through the men's locker room by my dad at the local pool. No genitals bothered me, nor was I violated.

There are female sex offenders out there, too! Any man who dresses as a female for the purpose of going into a locker room would be really embarrassed and would stick out like a sore thumb. Really, children should learn to not talk to dangerous strangers of either gender; it's really terrible that children, especially female, are told to look out especially for male strangers. Most transwomen I know feel uncomfortable about using the women's locker room, even, until policies like this are put into place! It's scary to not be able to go into the locker room of your identified gender.
