@BBW - wow people really hurt the LGBT Community in that way? thats horrible, i never thought people actually would say/write hate to anyone. im not hating anyone, i just have an opinion about the topic discussed. why would someone beat or kill someone over it? none of that makes any sense to me except for the one about taking their date to prom. that's an issue in statewide schools i've heard.

Yes. People really do hurt the LGBT community in this way. You want to know why people care so much about having LGBT rights? This is why! Because people are terrorized.
It's easy to have an opinion opposing something if you have never had to live through, or personally know someone who's lived through, this kind of terror.
I have three friends who, in the past month, have been referred to as men even though they are very obviously women, simply because they wear more masculine clothes. It was done intentionally. I witnessed two of the incidents.
I have a friend who has to change rooms in her house because her neighbors are so bigoted, they make death threats through her bedroom window. The police do nothing and she cannot afford to move.
Me, personally? I lost my two closest friends when I came out (or re-came out... whatever. I've known I was bi since I was 12). Not to mention most of my family has ceased to speak to me.
I have a transgendered friend (not a transvestite, there is a difference, you should learn it) whose family says the most God-awful things to him and it absolutely breaks my heart to hear about it.
A teen in my state just committed suicide a month ago because of the things that were being said to him on FB and at school. A beautiful life snuffed because of hatred and intolerance.
Yes. This hatred and violence happens. Ignoring it won't make it stop. It's WHY we fight for equal rights.
