Dork Confession!

Contributor: Darling Jen Darling Jen
So I confess... I'm a dork and a nerd. But there is more than one kind and I know I can't possibly be alone on the forums. So who is ready to confess?

I've made the poll anonymous for those not ready to "come out" because I want a honest poll of how many are out there. But I still encourage everyone to post their own dork confession.
Answers (private voting - your screen name will NOT appear in the results):
I'm a gamer (follow specific companies, brands, know back-stories and creators, and know about games long before the average shopper.)
89
I'm an otaku. (learned some Japanese just for anime/manga, have been to a convention, and listen to j-pop on my mp3 player)
42
I'm a sci-fi dork. (Star Wars, Star Trek, comic-con goer, Ender's Game, the robots will take over the world)
98
I'm a fantasy dork. (Renaissance fairs, D&D player, Magik card collector, equip accessories for 10+ defense points)
72
I'm a nerd. (likely built your own computer, knows C++, types in 1337, there are 10 types of people in the world, those that understand binary and those that don't)
58
...All of you are weirdos. I'm normal.
41
Other. I'm a rarer dork/nerd or something else entirely.

Ok, so my confession is that I'm an anime dork. I've been to anime conventions, learned some Japanese, own some hentai, have a yukata and many weapons, considered cosplaying, have some j-pop on my mp3 player, etc.

I Hello Kitty! And anything classifies if you want it too. After all, labels are subjective, right?

I'm kind of the movie/book/music dork. I know lines to movies most people haven't even seen and I spend most of my free time in the company of books. And I'm good with that

I was a dork before it was gentrified into 'geek'.

LINUX / +10 / Don't Panic / Smeg! / Greedo didn't shoot AT ALL! / White and Nerdy / Go away or I shall taunt you a second time! / Reverse the polarity / I am not a number! / ...

I can go on forever.

I'm a D&D, fantasy football, video game playing Star Wars dork who watches the occasional anime. I've also been accused of being a Jork (Jock/Dork).

Hehe that's awesome! "Hans shot first!" Though I don't consider myself anywhere near knowledgable or obsessed enough to fit into that category.

@Nakana - I've never heard of a Jork before! That's pretty great to have your own category.

And there's only 3 "normals" so far. I suspect the numbers will get quite interesting as more people vote. (C'mon otakus! I want to see that number go up!)

In high school it wasn't unusual for me to get done with football practice, listen to Weird Al in the shower then go play D&D and video games for the rest of the night with my non-athlete friends.

I think of myself as more of a nerd than a dork, but I definitely have my dorky side. And I'm with you, Tori; I'm all about movies, books, and music.

Yes! OCD in the order that's right - alphabetical! I'm right there with you! All of my movies, for instance, are in alphabetical order.

"Gamer" has really evolved as a word. For me, "gamer" is a LARPer, tabletop player, or a cc-gamer (M:tG).

If someone was into video games though, they were a "video gamer". Totally different.

As you can tell, I'm the "gamer" type of dork (or used to be).

-I love comics, and can discuss Comics as Lit

-Big fan of sci-fi, especially Star Wars. My wife and I sent out Christmas cards photoshopped as Han and Leia.

-Have played D&D, not regularly now, though I write campaigns and plotlines for friends who DM. Managed a Free-form RP channel on mIRC for years.

-I've played WoW, may re-subscribe when Cata comes out

Could probably go on and on.

All of the above except the term you use for "nerd." I am horrid with computers. But the most prominent are probably Renaissance and gaming, and Renaissance even more than gaming because I enjoy it more.

i've no idea I like anime alot I search and read descriptions and make lists of what I should watch, buy next or if I found a ton of stuff that caught my interest make a list of wat I should check out, like write the title of the anime or movies and read the description later or watch a youtube clip on it or somethin. I am a member of a site called wiipals its a nintendo chat site its awsome forums and u make your own profile and everything..also a member of gamespot.com and animalcrossingcommunit y.com (animalcrossinga game I like alot)

When I go to buy something say I don't have a printer scanner copier and its something I am buying only once I will read hundreds of reviews and search hundres of products, even read the review on a product I am more interested in on multiple sites until I find the ONE I can do no wrong with and its the best of them all for a great price too..reviews mean alot to me,but if its something I know I will like alot without research and reading tongs of reviews like the game animal crossing city folk for wii wasn't rated good but I knew I would be pleased.

I recently bought cookware I did tons of research and decided the cookware from Dr.Mercola's website was the ultimate buy and usda organic coconut oil from the site was also a must to buy along with it because of its health benefits, even tho its been a big controversy for so long I'm totally convinced it is very healthy and great and I cant wait to try it with my awsome safe cookware that has a 40 year warranty on it...

I didn't know how to vote I selected other. What do I sound like to you?

I'm a book geek. Most of my spare time is spent reading. A perfect day for me would involve spending an entire day at the bookstore exploring all the possible books I could buy ( I have a hard time picking one lol).

I still have a few thousand comic books from my youth. My favorite is the Uncanny X-Men when the series first re-invented itself. The Phoenix saga was some of the best writing ever.

I like Doctor Who, Star Trek, comic books (Vertigo and Dark Horse, thank you very much), Harry Potter, horror geek, I used to play D&D...

In the words of the great My Chemical Romance (Ray Toro):
"You like D&D, Audrey Hepburn, Fangoria, Harry Houdini and croquet. You can't swim, you can't dance, and you don't know karate. Face it! You're never gonna make it."
