I was watching The Doctor's show yesterday and they had Dr. Ruth on there and she said that its too excessive if someone uses sex toys more than once a year with or without a partner, I want to know who agrees. I think useing sex toys spices up the bedroom more and you have fun enjoying things together. I know it has spiced up my bedroom alot because I think when your with someone for years you should try things different.... I totally disagree with Dr. Ruth and we don't use every single time but bein a reviewer we do use them quiet alot.....
Do you think using sex toys in your sex life is ok or too excessive for every day use?

I have to disagree. Without toys I can't even orgasm, and my bf lives in another state. So what am I to do then? Abstain until who knows when?
07/28/2010
Not every day OR every sex encounter, but most times, a lot of times, yes. But at the same time, we're good with just our parts, no additives.
07/28/2010
Oh, and also, I think that any amount is just fine, whether they're used not at all or used all of the time! As long as the people involved are happy and pleasured.

I totally agree there thats why I thought it was crazy when she said that on tv I was like what!!!

Wait Dr. Ruth said this??? Wasn't she the one who was always on tv showing the different sex toys and stuff?? Maybe I am remembering completely wrong. But yea um..I totally disagree!!
07/28/2010
Oh, and I chose other because I don't use them every day alone, and I don't use them EVERY sex encounter with my husband...but I use them more than once a month too...like probably a few times a week and then MOST times with my husband.
07/28/2010
I voted "other" because it all really depends.
When I get something new we tend to use it a lot. But we don't use toys EVERY time. Probably more times without than with.

I also looked up Dr. Ruth's site, and she does have some valid points about why she doesn't like vibrators for everyday use. I didn't see anything about not once a year, but she was saying that using a vibe every day or every time can cause people to be addicted to the high sensations and can desensitize themselves to their partner...which makes sense.

I have to disagree with doctor Ruth. We don't use them at EVERY sexual encounter, but always when I am going to be able to have an orgasm, and certainly MORE than once a year.
Dr. Ruth, God love her, has done a lot for sexual openness, but she has some beliefs that are not true for everybody. For instance, she thinks women shouldn't try for multiple orgasms, because she THINKS that those women have weak ineffectual orgasms, and that any after the first are too weak to count. WTF? She hasn't been in our bedroom (or outside our bedroom door!)
She designed the Oricillator (I KNOW I spelled that wrong) but ONLY for women who are "pre-orgasmic" according to her, once you can have an orgasm, you are supposed to STOP using the vibrator. Kind of a waste of $150.00 vibe for my liking.
Shit, I just realized I voted wrong. I meant the SECOND one.

She's also in her 70-80's. She might be getting more conservative in her later years.
07/28/2010
By myself I use them every time. With my husband I use them sometimes.
07/28/2010
It's the Eroscillator. (OK, looked it up and spelled it right that time. That was bothering me.)
And it is the ONLY sex toy she evidentially approves of. Of course, if she gets a Royalty every time they sell one......

Yeah, you do have to look at the culture she was brought up in. Did you know she spent years in a Nazi Concentration Camp as a young girl? I applaud her for working on Recovery so well, putting her life to good use (talking about SEX!), and being one of the first people who would actually say "ORGASM" on television!

I use toys pretty much daily myself, and probably about half the time when I'm with a partner (either a vibrator on me or a pspot toy in him).
07/28/2010
I honestly think she's completely crazy for saying that. If her advice wasn't so extreme I would say, "Well, maybe she doesn't realize..." But because it's so far out in the deep end, I think she's just a nutcase.
07/28/2010
She's stuck at where she had started - she broke the mold all those years and the 'sexual revolution' had gone on to entirely different areas while she's covering the same areas she's always covered. She's not crazy, she's just not caught up with what's been happening in her own field. It happens to a lot of experts and trail-blazers. That's why you never rest on your laurels.
07/28/2010
You don't want the toys to get in the way of the relationship, but if you're working together and talking, etc. that can be easily dealt with.

Too excessive if they're used more than once a year? Wow, I think I'm wallowing in excessiveness here

Sue Johanson is the one who taught people how to properly use and care for toys on the air. Dr. Ruth is simply a therapist specializing in sexual health...but I'm surprised to hear her say that using toys is obsessive and wrong. She always said that usng whatever you had to be intimate with your partner was amazing and totally correct! Odd.

It is very easy to resensitize yourself though, simply turn down the vibrations and try something new. There isn't any nerve damage that's done (thank you to my Dr. for clearing up that myth) it's just literally changing what you expect from your orgasm. patience and relaxation are key...unless there IS nerve damage or a hormone issue making it difficult for you.

I use a variety of vibrators of differing intensities and it helps to keep it all fresh.

This one was hard to choose from because I don't use it everyday, but I use one like 2-3 times a week. And we usually use it to enhance our sex, but not everytime.
07/28/2010
We don't use them together EVERY time we have sex but we aren't afraid to pull out a toy if we are in the mood!

Who cares what Dr. Ruth says? More daytime drivel that passes for information. I stopped listening to the so-called experts a long time ago. These are the same people who tell you the g-spot doesn't exist and vaginal orgasms are a myth.
You'd expect a woman to know better - but I assume that the ones touting all this misinformation simply haven't had as much sex as they claim - or that they and their partners are extraordinarily inept lovers.
Enjoy your toys and let the so called experts to wallow in their ignorance.

Same here. If I want to cum, I'll pull out a toy. Often, I just enjoy the intimacy of sex and don't worry about my toys. Either way, I don't feel there's anything wrong with using them as often as you want.
