It seems to be a dying art. Do you? Why or why not? Do you think it has a purpose?

it has no purpose. within 20 years all writing will be on tablets or phones. it's a throwback to a bygone era that will exist as an art form, like calligraphy, but not as actual writing.

I write cursive occasionally.

I write a lot, and much prefer it to typing

I write a lot and it is usually in cursive handwriting. Occasionally I have to print and hate it, but still do it.

I like it a lot. I think it makes writing a lot quicker.

I hate it and only use it for cashing checks or when specifically asked. I just don't like they way my cursive looks. I love my normal hand writing though.

I took up writing exclusively in cursive 5 years ago when I started religiously keeping a journal. I love it and think my cursive looks wonderful.

I write in a mix of cursive and print when it is for my own purposes and print when others have to read it. I have very clear legible print handwriting so it just makes everything easier to read. I think I would like cursive better had I not learned it before printing. My preschool taught cursive, I then went to public school for 2nd grade and was forbidden to write in cursive even though I could, then had it taught to me again in 3rd grade and was forbidden from printing. So I got a bit fed up with it.

I use this mix as well. Fast-writing has some cursive in it. =P

had to learn for school but never uses it

I still use it fairly often.

I write almost exclusively in cursive, this applies to just about everything. I've pretty much failed at being able to do non-script at this point.

I do that fancy partial alternative where I write in part cursive / part print, depending on which particular variation of the letter I like better. Very classy.

I write letters regularly to someone in prison. I don't have a printer, so I have to write the letters in cursive. I will say, my handwriting has suffered over the years because of using a computer, but until I do get a printer, writing the old fashioned way will just have to do!

Being ambidextrous, I can write badly with both hands.

I use it a lot. I sign my name about a million times a day, always in cursive, plus notes to myself and such, leisure writing, etc. are always in cursive. It takes lest time...no lifting pen from paper ten times to write a couple of words.
03/13/2012
I don't use it much. Just to sign my name!!

I only use it for checks, and I write 1 check a month.

I've always had a hard time reading it. My brain just takes a little longer to pick out the letters. Plus, most people whose cursive I've seen have worse handwriting because of it.
The German cursive was even harder to read. Imagine being 20 or 21 and telling your college prof. that you can't read English cursive when you're supposed to learn German cursive!

I start out writing in print. Then I will tend to start doing cursive. So needless to say I have to start over and do it in cursive.
03/13/2012
I only use cursive exclusively to sign my name.
03/13/2012
I use it regularly, but couldN'T really care less if it exists or not.
03/13/2012
I use my own handwriting that is a mixture of cursive and print. I like cursive because it is harder for someone to forge. I don't think it is useless, because it comes in handy for somethings.

Our older children learned cursive, but rarely use it.
I think it has a place, but not as it did years ago.
My Man can't write in cursive. He was taught, but his handwriting is so awful, it looks like a child wrote something. Mine looks like the writing on a prescription pad, all scribbles.
We both usually print. My Man prints in all capitals, as even his regular printing is illegible.

I typically write in cursive and think cursive is beautiful. I write constantly too- journal, checks, lists, cards- I'm definitely a writer by nature. My print handwriting is so sloppy though!
03/13/2012
I suck at writing it, and at deciphering cursive written letters!
03/13/2012
I hardly ever use it unless it's to sign my name and I suck horribly at it...but I do love it.
My handwriting is so bad my mom keeps telling me to become a doctor. xD

I only use it to sign my name and I hate it. My signature even looks ugly lol cause I am so bad at it.

My everyday writing is a mix of print and cursive too, and everyone always comments to me how neat and clear it is. I haven't written a document exclusively in cursive since the last high school project I did where it was a requirement (I'm 32 now).
