my natural handwriting is a combination between cursive and print
Cursive
09/23/2012
My handwriting isn't so much a mix as just print with some letters connected sometimes. I don't have anything against cursive, though I find it frequently decreases legibility.

I hate it, looks sloppy.

I do believe that beautiful calligraphy style cursive writing is a dying art. To be fair even when it was widely used not many people could actually READ their own writing! With the advent of printing and typewritten letters standardizing the look more people are able to write than ever before so there are upsides. Still a beautiful hand written letter is a pleasure to the eyes and to the soul.

I suck at it so I don't use it. It could have a purpose, but I'm not really interested. I just don't care about it.

Haven't used it much in years.

I hate it

I use it everyday. I think my cursive is easier to read than my printing and I write faster in cursive. Have loved it since third grade.

I can sign in cursive, and I can read cursive, but that's about it.

Only for signatures anymore.

It can be kind of fun, or cute on notes and stuff, but it isn't really purposeful.

Back when I was a kid, I was great at it... but now that I don't use it that often, I suck at it.

I don't know anyone who doesn't write in cursive. It's one of those things which gets taught in primary schools here. Children start off printing letters, then they get shown how to join them up.

if im writing something important i use cursive

I actually write mostly in cursive. Apparently, mine looks nice from afar and a mess up close. =P But I can read it (most of the time), so that works out well for me.

It is simply a more "formal" and prettier form of writing, but apparently many schools, as of 2012 and planned 2013 are "no longer going to teach it". That makes it a done deal. In one generation, kids will know how to use keypads and touch screens, but cursive writing will be "dead" and sadly, even reading old historical documents will be like reading ancient Greek.

From a technical perspective, you are totally correct. From an educational prospective, it means our youth can no longer even read the critical founding documents of our nation, all written in Cursive. One more layer of separation from knowing who we are and where we came from. Historically, always one of the small steps in the degeneration and dissolution of any of histories great societies.

it has no purpose. within 20 years all writing will be on tablets or phones. it's a throwback to a bygone era that will exist as an art form, like calligraphy, but not as actual writing.

You may be one of the few. It will be like Calligraphy. A hobby, not a standard form of writing.

Okay. You confused me. There is printing..as a hand written form of this typed print. Then there is "hand writing", which is Cursive. What are you calling "normal hand writing"?

You know, you are far from alone. My sister teaches high school. She now see's that all the time. Brother is a college professor part time and also see's that in many papers.

I do that fancy partial alternative where I write in part cursive / part print, depending on which particular variation of the letter I like better. Very classy.

When you sit back and really think about it, all these issues...seemingly insignificant, have serious long term ramifications to the society we all live in. How good, for instance, if half our society cannot actually read what the other half has written?

Too funny. You know they actually teach writing in Medical Schools now, so that written notes and orders are clear, accurate and can communicate to others without having to "guess and interpret" what the doctor "meant to say"? No kidding. Want to see some of the finest in hand writing? Go look through a modern medical chart!!!!
