I think the girls are way too young to be dancing like that. Especially in those costumes. I'm pretty sure it would be a lot less off putting if they were in age appropriate costumes.
Creepily Impressive but too Young?

Growing up too fast :/
05/05/2011
I took dance classes when I was little, and while this is the hip-hop style, it's way to risque for girls that young. Maybe I'm old fashion, but it was how I was raised.
05/05/2011
somethings are way to over the top for little kids
05/05/2011
My daughters would never be able to dance like that!
05/06/2011
That's crazy! I danced from a very young age, but never anything like that!
05/06/2011
In my opinion that show is what pedos dream about.. I find that really creepy. o.o I personally would never allow my children to even dress like that let alone dress like that.
05/19/2011
i feel like a perv watching that and i coundnt watch the hole thing
05/19/2011
I guess strippers need to get their start somewhere.
05/19/2011
To be honest I was more outraged then anything, why a mother would let her child dance like that is beyond me! Plus that outfit! This is far from ok.
I just don't see any excuse for it.
I just don't see any excuse for it.
05/20/2011
I would have had so much fun as a little kid doing it, but now I find it creepy
08/06/2011
umm these little girls are pussy poppin', not dancing, and umm... yea, that's not appropriate
08/06/2011
Wow! I mean those girls are really talented but it totally weirds me out how young they are. That talent can be better fostered in more appropriate routines.
08/06/2011
Agreed. Sure, I guess a paedo's going to get his rocks off to videos of little kids no matter how they're dressed, but this made me quite uncomfortable. Had this been my own kid I'd have given the instructor what for!
08/06/2011
I danced most of my life and unfortunately this exact issue made me shy away from jazz and hip hop classes and stick with ballet. Even as a teenager, when I saw teachers choreographing dances like this.. I just thought it was so inappropriate.
The costumes combined with the choreography is pretty disturbing. Honestly I think the costumes are worse- why are little girls wearing what looks like lingerie on stage??

Definitely inappropriate. Granted I'm sure these girls have seen provocative dancing via TV and movies but that does not mean that young girls should be taught to dance in this fashion. Certainly classical styles, dancing from other cultures, elegant dances and many other dance styles are up for grabs.
08/06/2011
Definitely shouldn't make anyone feel uncomfortable to watch a 5 yr old dance

These girls are in grammar school and yet they are participating in a dance competition where they are dancing in ways I don't find appropriate. I wondered what everyone else's opinions were. As a dancer with 14 years of professional training, I started at the age of 4. I am not naive to the skimpy spandex costumes and intense competitiveness. But, I never was taught to dance like THIS at that age. We did wear some costumes similar to this, But they don't become sexualized without the moves that accompany them.
In my opinion these girls are extremely talented but they are being extorted in a similar way that little girls are for winning beauty competitions. I find it irresponsible and inappropriate. I felt like a pedo watching it and it made me a bit uncomfortable lol.
What do you think?

My little sister has been doing ballet since she was at the age these girls are. I have to say, they're extremely talented for their age, but I would feel uncomfortable watching my little sister pull off dance moves like this when she was that age. There are other ways for these girls to be accomplished without being highly sexualized.

Sure they are talented, but that is really inappropriate! I can not even believe that their mothers let them dress like that and dance like that. They look like they are mini saloon girls and then on top of it they are dancing like strippers. Not right at all!
12/08/2011
Sadly, that sort of thing isn't uncommon. I saw a video a while back with several little girls and boys (I'm guessing ages 3-10) dressed and dancing just as provocatively... AND THEIR MOTHERS WERE DANCING WITH THEM IN THE SHOW, but worse! Strippers aren't even as raunchy as those people were... How is it that this is considered acceptable?
I mean, I can understand that a child may see a singer dance and say "I want to do that!" but there's definitely a line, and it's being crossed more and more by these children's parents.

I just wonder what they will believe and think when they are teenagers. What is correct and inappropriate? I hope the parents keep a close eye on these girls.

The choreography doesn't bother me nearly as much as the outfits do. If their midsections were covered, I'd probably be fine with it.

I would argue that they look like they are having fun because, being seven, they ARE having fun and have no idea what the moves actually simulate or represent. I highly doubt they know enough about sex to actively be sexy, instead adults are telling them to do things that ARE sexy-- and normalizing that kind of behavior for a 7 year old, who DOESN'T know what they are doing, isn't right for the kids.
They are having fun. But my standard here is: if you wouldn't show a child a video of an adult woman (say, a stripper) doing the exact same thing, you probably shouldn't let your kid do it. I think these kids are too young for MTV and so never should have even seen the single ladies videos...we aren't letting kids be kids anymore. less

Also, those girls are actually part of a child dance trope that even has a tv show. Their coach put the video, as well as others, on their youtube. essentially as advertisements.

Well, but...
I mean, honestly, how many of those girls and parents thought, "One of these parents in this crowd will put this recital on the internet, and millions of strangers will see my 7yo dancing in a sexual manner."? How many of them thought, "A pedophile might see this on the web and view my daughter in a sexual light."?
The sad truth is that, even with the rise in media coverage of sex crimes committed against adults and children alike, probably none of them even considered the possibility. Chances are most of those parents are no where near as active on the web as, say, us sex bloggers and sex toy reviewers. And most people base their internet activities on the assumption that the only people watching are their friends and family.
I know I sometimes lose sight of the fact that it's not just my friends reading Insatiable Desire.
In today's world, they probably should have assumed someone who filmed the recital would put it online, if only on their personal YouTube account to share with family members. But even then, they might not have seen that as a threat. Because of online social networking, we've become increasingly lax in our wariness of the web. We treat it more like our living room than a public forum accessed by billions of strangers. less

It's not really appropriate, but wow that is impressive. I think the moves would have bothered me less if the clothing was more appropriate. Doesn't make it totally okay, but would be an improvement.
12/08/2011
Thats just wrong their parents should be ashamed to have their lil girls dancing around in such lack of clothing and to such and adult themed song. its shit like this that creates pedo's and I bet at least half these girls are gunna end up pregnant before they turn 20, cause their parents let them dress like lil sluts.

I'm 100% against the shaming of sexuality and of the human body. But you know what else I'm against? Sexualizing young children. Which this is, no matter which way you slice it.
Beyonce is popular, but she is also a sex symbol. A lot of her music is not age appropriate either, and her music videos, dances and costumes are targeted toward an adult audience, not 7 year olds. Having them mimic her at that age is completely inappropriate.
They are extremely talented girls, and I'm sure they had a blast dancing, but they would have had a blast dancing regardless. They did not need to do the same dance moves choreographed for adult women while dressed in lingerie-style costumes to have fun and show off their talent.
Tone it down a bit for their age, and it would have been equally amazing and less repulsing. It would also get a lot less traffic from pedophiles.

SAdly all you can do is complain about it cause there really is nothing you can do, It is the parents choice to allow the child to be exposed that way, but honestly its no different then parents putting their kids in pageants or allowing them to be models or on tv shows, they all expose children in a way that sometimes can be wrong..
