Contacts or glasses?

Contributor: Blinker Blinker
I've had the same pair of glasses for about 5 years now and they're cracked, some kind of film is peeling of of them and there are tiny cat-sized teeth marks on the lenses. I think I may need a new pair...or, just get contacts. Haven't decided yet. If I could afford Lasik, I'd so get it.

So those of you that are visionally-impaired (yes, I made that up), which do you prefer? Feel free to elaborate! And if you've had Lasik or other vision-correcting surgery, feel free to talk about it!

The correct terminology is actually vision- or visually-impaired, so you were close!

I do not wear either as my vision is perfect, but I will say that glasses are much better than contacts. Less care and more comfortable on cooler days. When it is very hot out, however, they can become a bit aggravating, but I'd say that if you are used to wearing glasses, then stay with glasses.

GLASSES GLASSES GLASSES!

I LOVE them and it is one of the things that a lot of people say make me sexy. I got that sexratary thing going on. I love my thick black frames and it is staple of my sexy nerd look- a trade mark if you will. I feel naked without them.

This is why I'm torn. I want thicker black frames, but also the freedom of wearing contacts. And I want to be able to wear sunglasses. I miss sunglasses

Thank you! It's a bit late for me so the words were mangled

And I like your line of thought: stick with what you know.

I love my contacts. I've been wearing them for awhile (more than 5 years), and I would never go back.

What annoyed me the most about contacts early on was having to change them and take them out at night. Now, I wear monthlies that can stay in for an entire month, night and day. So, you only have to worry about them once a month! I love it.

I do keep a pair of glasses around for when I'm having allergy issues and my eyes are swollen and dry, but I haven't worn them for several months.

I say, ask your eye doctor if you can try contacts (they have singles available) and see if you like it. If you do, order some. If not, go back to glasses.

Glasses here, too. I like them for the most part - the fogging over from going outside-in and vice versa is annoying, though. They're slender oval in red laquered metal. I almost miss my larger lenses only because I can't see my reflection to part my hair straight now. Oh, and the optometrist said I'll need bifocals in a couple of years ... damn genetics.

I considered contacts when the astigmatism ones came out, but after watching some videos on how to put them in and take them out ... I'm too nervous about pointing my index finger directly into my eyes (I have a hard enough time putting eyeliner on). I'm told that if I can't stand that, I wouldn't be a good candidate for laser-vision correction. So ... Coke-bottle glasses are in my future.

Yay @ 'splain spellinz

And contacts all the way! Glasses are adorable. But I have a bimbo nose and can't wear them and look attractive at the same time. Boo!

Also, I like being able to wear stylish sunglasses instead of dinky clip-ons that fall off!

Also also, my Dad had Lasik and he loves it! He still has to wear reading glasses, but that's a zillion times better because he was as blind as a bat! Seriously... he was wearing coke-bottle glasses at age 2.

I'm on medication that makes my eyes seriously hurt like hell when I'm in the sun so I have to wear these granny-inspired "fit overs". They're huge black plastic sunglasses that I wear over my glasses. From far away they look like the stylish big-eyed sunglasses. My man even sez I'm cute in 'em...but I think that's just so he'll get laid

I keep going thicker and thicker. My eye doctor carries all designer frames and some are pretty out there. He always uses me as the guinea pig to try on the daring frames lol.

I also have contacts, but I rarely wear them.

My current pair of glasses are Coach Kensleys in Black.

Sunglasses...ahhh yes this is a problem. Clips are not made for many versions.

I wear both contacts and glasses. I have what my boyfriend refers to as my "sexy librarian glasses" for night time, or days when my eyes are bugging me, and contacts, in multiple colors, for during the days. I like both but prefer my contacts since I feel safer driving with 360 degrees of vision. I am also classified as legally blind without glasses or contacts and have walked into door frames at night or low standing objects.

I have 40/20 vision so I don't need contacts or glasses. When I was younger I hated having such good vision because I thought it would be really cool to wear glasses.

I'm pretty blind at night. I can't drive at night, oh noooo I'm just afraid to because all the lights freak me out. My anxiety problems coupled with night blindness is just scary.

Ya I hate to drive at night the car headlights just seem so bight and in your face no fun at all. A little trick if you ever do need to drive at night if you look slightly to the edge of the passenger side of the road (obviously don't turn your head) it helps with how intense the headlights are. Im also a very anxious person as well... Especially in cars my boyfriend hates it since I always have to look to make sure no cars are coming and it makes it hard for him to see (I get scolded a lot for it)

As for walking into walls I do that with my glasses and contacts on as well lol I'm just clumsy (you'd think as a cheerleader id have better coordination) but its definitely a lot harder to figure out what's a space and wha'ts not when the wall through the door matches the color of the door frame and its all blurry and fuzzed together.

I wear glasses most of the time. I wear contacts on special occasions. Its easier with glasses since you dont need to do anything but put them on your face. Contacts are a little bit more work. I wanted Lasik until I read up on it and saw some where that the procedure can reverse which would seem like such a waste. Not to mention they say that the flap they make during surgery never heals completely so I rather just stick with glasses and contacts just to be safe.

I don't wear anything at the moment, but I think I might need to start wearing reading glasses or something. I definitely don't see as well as I used to. I have an appointment with the eye doc in a week, so I'll find out then.

I have had glasses for quite a while now. Can't even remember how long. Maybe since sometime in 6th - 8th grade. And I'm almost 22. I have gotten used to my glasses and I think I look weird without them, so I love glasses and will probably stick with them forever.

I most often wear my glasses because they are comfortable and easy to take on and off. I only need my glasses for distance, so having contacts in gives me a major headache when I have to look at things up close. Which is quite often, since I work at a library!

I only had to get glasses during my last pregnancy, when my eyes started going. "Presbyopia" they call it, no, it has nothing to do with religion, it's what happens to your eyes, when you get....over 35 or so, and the jelly inside them gets thick and the shape of the eye doesn't rebound as easily as it once did, and you can't freaking see!

I lost my prescription glasses, so I have a pair from the store, but my eyes are two different prescriptions, so I SHOULD get a new pair.

I actually panic when I am out and realize I have forgotten my glasses. I have never NOT been able to see detail before, and it scares the shit out of me. I am a inveterate label reader, and I CAN'T shop without my glasses. So, I carry an "Owl" magnifier in my purse, for emergencies, like an old lady. (it looks like a credit card, and it has a magnifier and a little tiny light on it) *sigh* Stuff just starts to GO when you get a little older....

Blinker, My Man had, like 20/800 vision and he got Lasik about 6 or 7 years ago, and it is the most amazing thing. He was so bad he had to place his alarm clock AGAINST HIS FACE to read it without his glasses in the morning, and had to either swim with glasses on, or go blind. The Lasik brought one eye to 20/20 and one to 20/10!

He now needs reading glasses, but he can SEE normally otherwise. It is fantastic, once your prescription stops changing and your eyes have stopped changing shape. It's worth every dime.

Have you tried those yellow glasses over your own? My Mom's family has inherited night blindness and most of my aunts and cousins wear these yellow glasses at night. I didn't inherit the condition, but they say the yellow glasses REALLY help.

So I selected both contacts and glasses and that I love them. Because I do, I love both. I love contacts because I see clearer with them and it just feels natural and I see things the way everyone else sees things. When I wear glasses things look smaller. I love glasses for other reasons though. First off I love my glasses, and second, it's nice to have something to change into at night when my contacts feel dry and it's nice to be able to wear them on days that my eyes are bothering me for whatever reason.

If you go with contacts I absolutely recommend daily disposables. It's so nice to just toss them at the end of the day

I've had to wear glasses since I was 3 years old. During about a year and a half of my elementary school years I even had to wear an eye patch over my stronger eye in order to help my weaker one get better. All in all, it definitely encouraged me to hate them. I always wondered what it would be like to live without something on my face, every waking moment (with the exception of bathing.

But to my doctor's surprise, my eyes actually improved over time and for about a year in high school I tried contacts. I liked not having glasses on my face but talk about discomfort! Dry itchy plasticy things on my eyeballs got old very fast.

But now my eyes are a lot better and my eye sight even tests good enough to drive without glasses. But I usually wear them while reading or on the computer or watching a movie. I've learned not to hate them like I used to (though I certainly don't love them).

What matters to me is that my partner thinks I look cute in them.

Heh. I couldn't resist the "you suck" button.

For realz, though, I wear glasses for driving and shopping and would wear contacts as well but they're harder to take in and out than glasses are to put on and off and I just can NOT see my computer with my glasses on!
