I suggest you try and understand that the world is not black and white, before accusing people of stupidity and ignorance. You have mentioned George Orwell, I suggest you read William Golding. True 100% democracy is unachievable by nature. We live in the world where every step is recorded, it does not matter whether you are in USA or Zimbabwe. It is not just the internet, there are satellites, CCTVs and a bunch of other information resources.
No one in this thread believes that any, even the most democratic government is ideal and free from shady practices. But you know, sea levels are rising, HIV is spreading, we are all going to die etc, etc ,etc. We are never gonna live in a perfect world, so obsessing about things that are beyond our control is useless. Whether you like it or not, without control there is anarchy.
Yes, hackers can access my personal information. At the same time Obama or Putin can push the Button destroying the world in nuclear explosions. Or maybe I'll die from pesticides in my veggies. All of those things are possible, to one degree or another. I, personally choose to live in a real world instead of fixating on doom and conspiracy theories. less
