Just because the poll is private to us mere mortals (i.e., non-employees of EF), the Powers that Be know who marked that and have likely investigated it accordingly.

Yeah, I hope so.

It's just that I treat people under 18 differently when I talk about sex, because I morally object to hitting on minors. I've been assuming that everyone here is an adult.

It's a safe assumption.

I live in Russia and I've never been to any sex shop before, except for the online ones. Never really had enough courage to walk in So I have no idea if they check IDs there or not...
I googled some laws and regulations and it seems that they have to do it and the acceptable age is also 18+. However, I remember my classmates buying cigarettes without any IDs and I personally bought alcohol when I was under 18 and no one minded... Probably, the same thing with sex shops. If you look mature enough - no one cares.

So true. Sadly, I am 21 but will probably look 14 until I start going gray.

I know many kids under the age of 18 with toys and they all say the bought them at a sex store. Few places check and few people even care at all about that problem. Sex toys is even a subject that the goverment wont get involved in.

I don't think it is just Oregon. I got my first sex toy at Spencers too.

I worked in a sex shop. The counter was right next to the door. Everyone was carded. The main rules was if you are under 18 gtfo.
Even if you were being accompanied by a parent. Even though in most cases, the ones with a parent were almost always under the age of 10. Weird.

I too frequented Spencers in Canada as a teen up until I was 18. I had no problem buying vibrators, lubes and a few kinky things, including a full sized BDSM cheapie toy bag full of goodies. I still shop there sometimes since the smaller bottles of lube there are cheaper than places like Walmart and sex shops.
Although up in Canada Spencers is NOT as much a sex shop as the ones in the states seem to be (they have a single 'island' of toys with a few sex 'gag gifts' around the store but besides that, that's it.). They have a ton of lighting and drug (mostly weed) related stuff, more than their sex toy selection which is mostly vibes, lubes, and couples games.
They're also located in the biggest mall in this city and parents bring their kids in all the time (like 5 year olds even) and the staff never bug them about it so long as the younger ones (under 14) don't wander close to that area of the store.

There's a sex shop in my area called "Cherry Pie". My mom has a really sweet naive friend who runs a preschool. She was taking the kids on a field trip and thinking, "I haven't had a good slice of pie in forever!" and then she saw the "Cherry Pie" sign and decided to stop and have pie with the kids.

...unfortunately, that was not what the store was selling, so she hauled the kids out of there. I thought it was funny.

But I think it's definitely a problem when parents knowingly take their little kids to these stores.

I'm on the fence ... more
It should be the "Age of consent" in whatever state the store is in.

I know a young woman who works at Spencers, she agrees that the sex toys they sell are "crap" but she doesn't card. Why? She says, "I have three options. I can card and 1) They will simply steal the toy or something else when we are busy. 2)I can card, they don't get the toy and they might have unprotected sex, instead of using the toy or the glow in the dark rubbers or whatever or 3)I can NOT card them, let them have the toy and nobody gets hurt. What is the lesser of those three evils?"

I understand why Eden has the rule and I agree with it (a lot more explicit stuff goes on here than in Spencers) but, really, the rule at a store like Spencers is simply arbitrary, and NOBODY checks.

I remember buying Joy Jelly or Motion Lotion at Spencers when I was a kid, (it was the only place I could to go get lube, and I was on the Pill and needed it) 16 or so. Nobody carded me, but they used to yell at us if we spent too much time in the sex toy aisle.

i think everyone should be able to, because let's face it-they're gonna do it anyway. they might as well have a safe and reliable place to get toys and information.

but laws tend to disagree ith me :o(

I can't remember my few sex store visits in Southern California... I think my friends and I walked in and there were some stairs eventually leading down into the main store area, and there they checked out IDs. We could get in without the ID, but once we hit the stairs to the "serious" stuff and registers, we were carded.

I don't know how I feel about people under 18 buying or owning sex toys, though. I mean, it might save a few accidents from happening with "homemade" alternatives.... But at the same time, where would we draw the line for being too young?

agreed. if u go to say spencers, u have to be 17 or 18 to buy sex toys too so its a good rule to not let u buy toys unless u are 18 and up.

good point. but i have kids and they will do neither for a very very long time lol. i will be strict =] BUT 52 weeks of romance sex shop here in VA u have to be 18 + to buy with an id. spencers doesn't check id's at the door neither does the shop i been to, but no way would i waste $ at 52 weeks, way too overpriced if u ask me. but its common sense to stay off a sex shop or site if u are 18 and under.

I suspect most states prohibit the sale of "adult novelty" toys to people under 18. I know that in California, you have to be over 18 just to enter an adult store and in my experience, most stores are pretty good about keeping minors out.

Yeah, it's the law that needs changing, and then Edenfantasys could follow after the law.

If the age of consent is 16 in most places, it's stupid that the age of toy-assisted masturbation is higher. People can hurt themselves with homemade sex toys!

I got my first sex toy when I was 16, so I may be a little bias. I believe that most kids have sex before 18, so what is so wrong if they use toys. I agree that adult oriented shops and websites may be inappropriate, so I get that side, but the toys alone are fine for teenagers to use in my opinion.

In a lot of other countries it isn't a big deal and they can be sold in normal stores. When I was abroad they had a hitachi hanging from the ceiling that you could turn on and look at in a tourist shop. That may have been an odd experience but.... I don't know. That is a toughy.

Uh-oh! I believe EF REQUIRES that you be the legal age (in your state) before you can even participate or purchase. I guess they don't really push it according to the poll results. lol I really don't think it should be allowed at all, not even to purchase! It could really be risky. Strict mommies and daddies might not be happy to see the package coming in the mail & happen to open it and see a hefty sex toy from EF for their little baby! lol. I would think it'd be very risky and could cause serious problems for EF. A lot of parents would be pissed and would look for a reason to sue. (Not that they would be able to, I don't know anythign about legal stuff lol) But, I would not be happy if my under age baby was on here, not with the way people talk in these forums! It seems certain sex things become fads. If a group says hey, I do it, the whole world ends up doing it. (not the WHOLE world but you get it.) Like the whole "is anal sex the new oral sex) ordeal. I just would not want my children who are far too young seeing any of this. Now, I wouldn't flip if the 13 yr old boy (the oldest) saw sex toys. I know he's saw them on my computer while eaves dropping, but he's extremely mature and has NO interest in them. He about flipped when he saw "dildo" on the computer screen. Yes, I have been MUCH more careful after that, but he's one that I don't have to worry about. But I would not want him on these forums.

I just don't think under age CHILDREN should be able to just join and participate. I really think it poses a pretty long list of risks.

Well it certainly ain't like that where I'm from! I'm from Georgia which has NO sex toy shops or anything and that's nice, but chattanooga does and that's very close to where I live. & They are very good with checking I.d.s The spencers in chattanooga has NEVER let KIDS buy toys. Now, I don't like how they allow kids to look at the "only 18 and up" area because it's VERY obscene, but they check IDS here. You cannot enter our sex shops without ID at the door which is a great thing. I don't think children should be able to do that. If a friend buys it, fine. Let the parents do what they feel neccessary if they find out, but I think a shop who lets kids in should be closed down completely!

She wasn't "lying" she just means that it IS the law & if the spencers in your area doesn't check for ID then it's not that the law does not exist, the person you replied to did not lie about it, it's probably just that the spencer's in your area just doesn't abide by that law.

Actually, there are studies that show that there are some types of damaging effects. I only say this because there is a such thing as being a victim. I say this because a lot of rapes occur from men (admittingly) "re-enacting something from porn.) It can damage people. Rape damages people. I'm not saying porn is to blame, but it doesn't help. The rapists of course are to blame, they should be able to seperate reality from fake, but still porn is not always totally healthy. I can give thousands of stories of women who were damaged by it in actually some pretty severe cases and porn was included in a traumatic experience I went through myself. I'm only saying these things because I feel that people take it lightly and think it's no big deal and see it as beneficial. Children who are exposed to it quickly lose respect for women in many cases. They're innocent mminds are corrupted and turned to gross-ness. Think about flopping your privates out in front of someone's child? Or what if a man flopped his out in front of your little girl? That is going to effect a person and so would being exposed to so much nudity and porn. I find it all to be distasteful and I personally will not enter any store or purchase ANY product that contains nudity. I want to be a real and good role model for my children as well as the children who look up to me.
