What I envision is a place where how you write isn't as important as what you write (grammar and stuff aside). I know we have so many different styles of writer here at EF that I'd love to get to a point where we are free to sort of showcase ourselves and also try out new things.

Writing is such a tender skill, it opens the writer to terrible criticism as well as the much easier to take praise. Frankly it's terifying to put a piece of yourself up for public scrutiny.

To help people feel less frightened I would like to get with you all and decide on two topics...they can be WHATEVER, and then sort of throw it to the club to write whatever they feel.

Then we'll get together and discuss the pieces in a light, gentle manner once a month.

How so? I'm curious because I've always been an avid reader. So it is interesting to hear from a writer who wasn't a big reader.

I've generally preferred reading to writing in the past. But that's because I'm rather ADD and I find it much easier to lose myself in someone else's works than start to create my own.

I strongly believe that reading is in close correlation with reading. However, everyone reads different things so it makes sense everyone would be able to write better about certain topics. I'm sure you'd blow me out of the water if it was something about music, Gary, just like I could probably write a mean story about a unicorn or kittens or something, haha.

I'm Bex, 28 and I'm a freelance writer working from home in my regular life. I primarily stick to the niche market of dating, sex and relationships, as well as the concept of sacred sexuality and spiritual sex.

I write non-fiction pretty much exclusively right now and I am eager to explore my fiction erotica writing and start submiting to anthologies.

Exactly our thoughts on the matter! If we set topics then we get to see new facets of our community and no one ever has to sit in front of a blank screen and wonder what the hell to write about! LOL

Glad I logged in earlier than expected. I thought this was at the same time at the workshop yesterday. Sorry Airen!

I'm Lauren and I've had a passion for writing since about the 6th grade when I started writing poetry. I have been published in a number of literary magazine's for poetry. Growing up it offered a lot of opportunities for me and became quite a passion. As others have stated, I lost time for leisure writing and would love to do it more again.

It's great that we have at least one professional writer here in the club! Such a mix of people, this should be amazing!

I see, but that could also make it easier to write something that is true to you, sometimes I wonder how much my writing is derived on what I have read elsewhere.

Hmm, I forgot to mention poetry, didn't I? That's definitely where my writing started. I don't do much of it anymore, except for invocations and other things in my spiritual practice. I have for several years been working on a personal anthology of these writings....

To elaborate my 'center of gravity' for writing is probably more based on comic books and horror movies than anything else. I have always wished for more time to read. (48 hour days would help this!)

That's actually a good point! You find that you start to recognize bits and pieces of 'your work' reflecting something you read or heard...it can get challenging

Good point. I am sure sometimes it does, and sometimes it doesn't.

Now my writing consists of journals...not blog type journals, but journal articles for the Americian Sociological Association type of journals lol. I LOOOOVE my research, but there is a certain dryness to it that you can't escape. Poetry is my escape from that.

I'm pretty ADD too. And yet I can be extremely focused when I need to be. What I have found is that I write best in the middle of the night. And for some reason, come up with sentences and paragraphs when I'm doing benign things like taking a shower, driving, trying to sleep. I'm sure you can imagine how interesting it is to try to remember these thoughts until I can get to pen and paper. I often have to get up in the middle of the night to write or type things down.

To be honest, I still have a horrible headache that has not gone away since yesterday's workshop so I may duck out of having to look at my computer screen. I'll try to hold out!

I don't write nearly as much as I used to but I'm hoping this club with set a fire under my butt and get me back into it.

Welcome! I too am a freelance writer working from home, who writes mostly nonfiction, and would also like to learn to write erotica.

I am the exact same way. It was a bit easier when I had a phone that I could type one handed on because I could take stuff down while I was doing other things and then go back and proofread it all later. I find that if I can manage to focus on something, anything, I'll end up hyperfocusing. Which can be really awesome, or really crappy. I'll often be late for things because I got caught up doing something else, or stay up half the night doing it, lol.

I'm totally the same. I do my best -everything- at night actually lol. I always keep a pad of paper with me and there is always one next to my bed so I can write down the stuff I come up with.

I'm Emma, I enjoy writing, I have been struggling to write anything for the last few years, I have been pretty distracted by my kids. I used to write short stories but have not done so in a long time. I really really miss it.

So next month our meeting will fall on Valentine's Day. We need two topics to write about for this month....What are some ideas about what we could write about or just incorporate into our writing?

I'll start out the topic topic with a few suggestions:

*Cherubs
*Hearts and flowers
*Chocolate
*Commercialism of holidays
*Love found (think romance)
*Love lost
*Murder, death and alien appocalypse

Just a few ideas from me.
