I love the contrast in colors, the way that the sky dramatically collides with the treetops. Wish it could have been brightened a bit on the lower part of the trees.

This what I love about art, and talking. What your favorite parts of things are are completely different than others. Which is why I like the idea of posting photos.

Absolutely. Getting others' opinions can only make you a better artist - regardless of the medium.

The thing about photography is I dont like doing anything post. I will adjust the aperture and shutter and make fake filters and more lighting etc etc for hours even though I could save time using a program to fix it. I just can't get in that frame of mind to use computers to fix my photos.

It's an integral part of what I do. i don't trust my camera to get the vibrance, contrast, sharpness, etc. that I saw in nature, so I tweak those in Photoshop instead. I do some dodging and burning too, but little more.

Oh, and clone out dust spots. My camera's sensor is a magnet for dust particles.

But I always feel like it's cheating. I know its the new way but I just don't know. I can appreciate it but than again I hate it at the same time. Because there are a lot of people out there who photoshop the hell out of their photos and there is barely anything pure about it. Maybe Im just a snob hahaha

Are filters for film cameras cheating? Is dodging and burning during developing cheating? Is using different films to bring out saturation or grain, or whatever cheating? Digital can be abused, but many of the things you can do with a digital camera are the same things that people have done for decades on film cameras.

I see that as different because you are taking the time to figure it out manually. You dont just click buttons its figuring out. I dont know I think Im just more of hands on person. Im not knocking you personally but I think you know what I mean about people who just rely on photoshop and programs to do everything for them.

This interesting conversation will have to continue another time. I like talking to you even though we view things different, like I said thats why I love talking about this kind of stuff.

I take my photos with the minimal settings on vibrance, contrast, and sharpness so that I can manually change them with Photoshop. Really, I'm doing the camera's job with that.'

Actually, I guess I do do more manipulation. I do some photostitching and High Dynamic Range compositing. Digital camera sensors have even fewer stops of exposure than slide film, and I do it to expand the range just enough to get photos in high contrast conditions that I otherwise couldn't.
