Continuing with the Rule of Thirds discussion…Landscape photography is a photographic genre that many might think much about when it comes to the Rule of Thirds. Certainly cyour background elements (waterfalls, skyscrapers, mountains, sunsets, etc, can be placed near the intersection of the imaginary lines you can imagine through your viewfinder, but foreground elements are equally important. In the image below, the flower-encircled rock in the lower left anchors the photo in the foreground, while the flowers and trees form interest in the background. Again, the rock does not lie exactly at the intersection of the lines, but is located a bit clser to the nearest corner. Ideally the mountain (Mount Rainier) you see on the left would have been in entirely in the photo, but doing so would have included the trail , which would have detracted from the image.

I clicked on it because it made me think of stats and i was confused what a histogram had to do with photography. My current crap camera is a point and shoot without such said feature

You might be surprised. If you look at your user's manual, you may find that you can access it.

I am sorry I missed the other meeting! This is fascinating stuff Vaccinium. I know my daughter will loove your articles because she is forever criticising my skillz as a photographer! Now she'll know WHY my photos are second rate. >.<

Thank you very much. It's at a place called Paradise Meadows. If you love riotous wildflowers and alpine scenery, there is nary a better place on Earth. It is, truly, paradise.

Thanks, Sam. The next photo I'll use is the prettiest one I have (because of the subject matter, if nothing else)

Makes me jealous. I'm living in a college town overrun with weeds (although I want to capture the run-down look on camera). I have a few shots I've been keeping in mind

For this picture, I was actually a contortionist I had to perch on a rock on my tiptoes to get the angle I wanted and so I didn't trample any wildflowers.

We have a botanical garden near here that has such beautiful places to photograph...I need to replace my camera though it's stone age technology.

Is it clear to everyone how to situate objects using the Rule of Thirds, or does it need some more explaining?

haha, sometimes to get the 'shot' you have to weird positions. Some of my deer pics were like that.
