Hi all. I'm here because I've always been a bit over weight and the last few years it's gotten worse. I've had issues with food in the past, but I've gotten better at controlling it as of late. I have been working at getting it off, eating healthier and generally living a healthier life but it's definitely not easy some days. I seem to be stalled weight loss wise and I'm fairly frustrated so a support group of sorts is definitely welcome.

I have been dealing with body-image issues that I’ve had since I was a young child when my mother would call me a “two-ton hussy”. It took me until my second year of college to realize that I was actually normal sized, if not slender.
I’ve put on weight, and my doctor recommends that I start exercising so that I don’t lose bone mass (I’m lactose intolerant, so my calcium intake is low) less

I have been unemployed for about two years (worked during the holidays)
Not only have I become a hermit but I have gain a lot of weight. I notice before the holidays that the black pants and button down shirts I used to wear to go on interviews do not fit. I can't even put on leg in them. I have several jeans and the larger size once are also not fitting me I can't button them up. I have to loose weight I can't afford to by no new clothing ( no longer eligible for unemployment).
Also I do feel down, I say I lost my mojo I have stop getting together with friends.

Good luck Dwtim!
I go up and down with my weight. Most people gain 5-10 lbs I gain 20-30 lbs at a time but I loose it just as quickly as long as I get enough umph to get off my ass and walk lol I just go in cycles of what I feel like. I currently gained about 15 lbs and wanna get it off before it becomes 30. I just don't like giving up my computer time or my doritos lol

Well, I have always been a big girl. I was always taller than every one in school, at least until the boys starting catching up in middle school. I wasn't really over weight, but I have been what some would call "big boned". I went through puberty early, starting at the age of 8, and by the time I was 10, I was my full height of 5' 10" and wore a size 10 shoe ( I now wear a 12!). So my point is, I have always struggled with body image and feeling "big" even when I wasn't overweight. I started steadily putting on weight after high school, and it has gotten so out of control that I can no longer "hide it" with clothes. I feel horrible about myself and I need to get back in to shape.

You don't have to eat dairy products to have good calcium levels. People in China don't and osteoporosis is rare there. According to the China study, the theory is that too high a protein intake leads to calcium loss, if I remember correctly.

My mom is a nutritional nut ( I say that in a nice way) and I was raised on good healthy food and vitamins. If I can remember half of what she taught me, I hope to help out.

I will say that summer coming will definitely help me get out and be more active, it's just all in finding time in our busy schedules to actually get out and do enough to start losing weight. Just a little jog here and there should be enough, but for me it's usually not. I only started losing weight when I was hitting the gym 3 times a week at least.

And I think eating healthy is the biggest reason it is hard for folks to lose weight- because I know that eating McD's (even the "healthy" stuff) on my way to class everyday isn't exactly helping me out.
I have noticed that I gained a couple pounds back once I started drinking pop again. Another irony- caffeine that makes you gain weight.
Has anyone ever heard of Phentermine? It is the drug that is in Alli, etc. My friend has actually been taking the Rx and said she is losing weight quick. It is hard because I am really starting to want to lose it and I have been looking around on the net for ways to help.

Day and Time
What about meeting times? Does a Wednesday evening once a month work for everyone? Personally, this is a great day for me as weekends are much harder to accommodate. What about the time? Is this later time okay with everyone? Time can be easily adjusted, but it will likely not be any earlier than this time.

Maiden I also feel horrible. I use to be more girly always had my nails done, wore make up when going out. The past year or so I just don't even bother to do my nails, hairs in a pony tail and I figure why bother with make up.
Dwtim I wish I only gained 10lbs I actually went up like 4 sizes pushing on a 5th size. It doesn't help that I have a small studio. A stove, sink and fridge. No counter space to have a blender. Oh I do not have a table either. This is my first apt I got it around the time I became unemployed so I have not bought furniture the sofa and love seat I had were hand me downs.

And calories burned is always dependent on what you weigh. If you weigh 150 pounds and do exercise for 15 minutes, you'll burn fewer calories than someone weighing 300 pounds doing the same activity for the same amount of time!
