If you're really eager to participate, you can look up avocado trivia in advance! Here's where I usually start: Purdue crop index.

It falls in that weird category like tomatos.

A friend and I invented this recipe for sun-dried tomato alfredo with spinach and avocado [. . .]

Oh my. This sounds fantabulous! You combined some of my very favorite ingredients. (I couldn't find a drooling emoticon, but we need one!)

I won't be able to be here tonight, but I need to revisit this thread for the recipe! You take pictures, too, right? Too bad you can't also send some my way tonight! [Edit: Geez, I didn't mean to make a lame rhyme out of those last two sentences, LOL!]

Aw, sorry you can't come! But yes, and if you PM me your email address I can even send the .txt file I composed the meeting in, so you can read it in condensed time

It's all cool, we can still talk!

The little pre-party for Eden Kink last time wound up being a lot of fun. So, if you're here early...

When you're cooking for guests, do you try out a new recipe, or go with an old standard?

I do all the experimenting on myself so that when people come over I know the new thing is good and I won't kill them!

I usually go with something I know I won't screw up too badly, although I sometimes try to add new things to it.

I usually go for what I know and adjust to any dietary restrictions they've got. (vegetarian, seafood, nuts, etc.)

It can be kind of fun to face new dietary restrictions, I think. Adds a new challenge, helps you think of something new.

Do your guests usually help cook, or do they wait and chat while you've got dinner on? Or does it depend?

Vegan is the hardest to cook for though @_@. So many things have animal-based items in there. Unless they want to clean up, I take over the kitchen like an organized, delicious tornado.

Mostly depends. A few of them help me cook, but we mostly just chat while I cook.

Old standard for new friends. For old friends and family try a new recipe.

I tend to take full charge in the kitchen and do it all on my own. They offer to help but I find it easier to keep everything that's happened in my head when it's just me doing it all. So they just sit back and watch and chat with me while i work.

wait and chat while dinner is one for the most part but it depends on the people. Where we live is smaller , so when we move I want to have a big family room and dining room so I can entertain more.

Yeah, usually with vegan guests I start with a vegan-from-the-ground- up recipe, rather than trying to convert a recipe I already know.

Although I made a vegan fudge with coconut milk that turned out pretty well a few months ago...

I experiment on my hubby. He is my test dummy. I remember when I was pregnant and screwed up muffins b/c of the weirdness of our stove. 1/3 of the muffins - the tops were burnt to a crisp and the bottom was liquid, the middle third was just fine and the other 3rd was pure liquid. My hubby ate every part of it and said it was delish. Ever since then he tells me to try what I want and he will eat it.

If people want to help, I am usually pretty good at dividing up the labor... but it's often easier just to do it while they relax and talk, too.

Vegans I can cook for no problem. My brother though, I can't.

He claims to be vegan yet uses chicken and beef broths in things, eat eggs in abundance, loves milk and eats every fish you can imagine. He is an idiot

I attempted to make vegan apple curry once,(which was already vegetarian) that didn't go too well. They couldn't taste the burnt bit too much, but I could. (Substituted milk for almond milk, next time I should double or triple the amount.)
