But speaking of lovely smells, I just made two loaves of Snickerdoodle bread and my house smells lovely.
Nothing like cinnamon and hazelnut. I recently found out that's what Snickerdoodle-flavored coffee is flavored with, and I am using the combination all the time now.

All right, it's 8EST, so welcome officially to the December meeting of Eden Cooks! We're obviously featuring gingerbread, which can be made many different ways, from a moist cake to something that's more a building material than a ... more
My household goes through a lot of oranges, lemons and lime. I'm always using them for cooking and everyone loves to eat them!

Since the gingerbread is the one you'll be making your house out of, let's start there! I apologize in advance for the lighting in these photos, the sun just didn't want to come out on my day off when I was baking.

And I also wan to mention, because I'm sure we'll have new faces here just for the Gingerbread Extravaganza project---Eden Cooks meetings are about everybody learning and sharing. If you have a question, help everybody learn by asking it! And if you've tried something before and it did or didn't work, share your story during the meeting. I'm glad you're here!

The first citrus fruits grew in Southeast Asia, somewhere between India, Myanmar, and southern China.

Make lots of colored frosting, lots of different candy. Use hard and soft gingerbread. We also buy lots of marshmallows to make creams and to use.

I live in Ohio, and my nieces from Florida would come up during Christmas and it'd always be tradition for us to make gingerbread houses during their visit. They were so young then... they'd always eat the candy before we could finish, hehe.

Structural but Still Darn Tasty Gingerbread
This recipe makes a 10x13 rectangle of dough for you to cut house-shapes out of. If you think you might want a bigger house, build a template from pieces of cardboard cut from a cereal box, then lay them all out flat, and see how much cookie you will need.

2.75 cups all purpose flour
0.5 tsp salt
1 Tbsp baking powder
1 tsp ginger, ground
1 tsp cinnamon, ground
a pinch cloves, ground
0.33 cup brown sugar
0.66 cup molasses (I used blackstrap, but a milder kind will probably taste better)
zest of one lemon
0.5 cup oil
1 large egg

Though perhaps only four ancestral species for citrus existed, hybrids created among many of the species are often edible and true-breeding themselves. If you've ever seen an Uglifruit in a grocery store, know that it is a cross between an orange, a tangerine and a grapefruit (which is itself a naturally-discovered hybrid) which was found growing naturally before the way to recreate it was discovered.

You can do either or. We make our own at times and when we don't have the time, we incorporate some store bought ones in.

Sorry about that, guys, I switched from a basic account to a logged-in account, and it changed how it provided my links. Everything will be fixed for the rest of the meeting.
