When you bought your first sex toy in person how did you feel?

there was no nervousness at all for me when I purchased my first toy.

Excited! (Not aroused though.) Couldn't wait to get home and use it I went to a really positive/non-creepy store, and they were great about making me feel comfortable

I was 19 when I got my first toy. It was actually my graduation day, but I'd opted not to attend because I hate grad. ceremonies. So of course the natural option was to go buy a sex toy instead! My mother went with me to a shop, and she was very helpful even though she seemed a little embarrassed (she herself doesn't use toys). I ended up with a small plastic vibe and a bottle of water-based lube. The shop's owner was very nice, only asking to see I.D. before happily completing the sale (I wasn't offended - I look a bit young). I supposed I was a little nervous, but I was more happy that I'd finally gotten a toy.

I never bought one in person

I went with some friends and wasn't bothered. I still go to stores in person because I think looking at toys is fun.

That is AWESOME! It's nice to see proof that, not all of your sex toy shops are back-alley, seedy places to go. Down here in TX, most of them are all pretty nice, cheery, and fun to go too!

I bought my first sex toy when I was twenty-one, I was out of my parent's house and on my own. I went to a local store that actually had coupons from a college coupon book.
When I went in, it was very well lit, very clean. As soon as I entered I was greeted with a cheery hello. I was only inside for a few minutes before a salesperson approached me.
I managed to squeak out, "Where are the vibrators?" And he took me right over to them.
He asked, "Can I help you with something in particular?"
I stammered out, "I don't know, ummm I just want to look right now." In reality, I was too embarrassed to ask someone of the opposite gender.
I was shocked and awed at how many there were, and all the different varieties. I was extremely daunted. How on Earth would I pick one?
A few minutes later, a female associate approached me and asked me if I needed any help. Since we were the same gender, I explained how my fingers weren't enough to make me orgasm, and I wasn't sure if I ever had orgasmed. I explained I didn't have a boyfriend, and I had this need, that I needed to fill. I explained I didn't have tons of money. I felt so embarrassed and was actually close to tears.
The sales associate said, "Relax, what you are feeling is perfectly natural. There's nothing wrong with sexual desire. I felt the same way you did when I bought my first one."
She seemed sincere, which made me feel a lot better. She showed me three models, all around the same price (under $20) and she explained a lot of details in an easy to understand way. She spent a long time helping me.
Once it came time to go up to the register, I felt all embarrassed and ill at ease again. The cashier acted nonchalant like someone buying a vibrator happened all the time. (Which of course at that store it would.) And as she rang me up she just spoke of commonplace things.
I've went back to that store several times of the years, and I'm no longer embarrassed to go in there and ask for help. less

I was still in HS and I was so worried, that I made my boyfriend get it for me with the money I handed him. Now, it's no big deal.
04/19/2011
I was nervous but also excited. Now I buy from Eden and I'm just excited!
04/19/2011
VERY aroused.
04/22/2011
I was 19, and I felt fine. My cab was late, I blew a condom up in to a balloon to make the store attendant laugh, and we ate some cookies together. Fun times.
04/22/2011
I was excited to get home and try it out
04/22/2011
I was a little bit nervous, but mostly excited! I thought it was super fun. But, I don't go in stores like that now because they're just too overwhelming. You know, I don't always want to be exposed to some of the vulgarity some stores carry. I mean some of it around here is just extremely distasteful! We don't have any stores like that at all in my area, thank God! But, about an hr away there are about 4. They're all extremely trashy though and honestly, the things in those stores around here are very likely to be infested with all kinds of dirty things/disease. It's sad. They aren't taken care of at all! It's more like a crack house/buy a minor prostitute for 10 min. type of store!

I have never bought any in person, I'm not sure if I could of done it in the past but now Im like whatever about being open with my sexuality.
04/25/2011
I felt fine. I'm not shy about my sexuality and I don't get embarrassed about it either.
04/25/2011
I was a little shy and awkward, if anything.
04/25/2011
I was excited. My husband and I were on a date and having a nice dinner- we decided to walk around the town and browse the various shops in the area. It's one of those "old town" areas in a major city with tons of restaurants and shops. As we were leaving I was struck by the idea to stop at the adult toy store I knew was just a couple of blocks away. As we were walking past it I opened the door and grabbed him by the arm and yanked him inside. He was a bit stunned. We looked around and decided on a few toys then made our purchase. I was not nervous or embarrassed at all. The people behind the counter are not judging us for what we buy and don't care what we purchase- as long as we purchase something!
I've since recommended this shop to a few shy friends.

I've never bought one in person... my DH has, and was turned on, but if shopping I like to do it with him... and I'm not bringing our toddlers into a sex shop
05/01/2011
I've never bought toys in person. The only thing I've ever bought at a sex shop was a porn DVD. The shop was small and in the backside of a shopping complex, the owner was a lady who purposely rent that unit, the intention was to discreetly serve mostly female clientele.

I was very nervous but also very excited. When I was 23 I bought a realistic dildo in a brick and mortar store. There were no other customers in there at the time and a an older woman behind the counter otherwise I don' think I would have had the nerve. Of course I almost died when she came out from behind the counter and got a bottle of lube and told me "You'll need some of this." If it had not have happend so fast I think I would have left without buying anything, lol.

My best friend came with me it was kinda funny to select one for my gf at the time
06/13/2011
We choose other, as it was a mixture of both arousal and embarrassment.
06/13/2011
I've never bought them anywhere but online.
06/13/2011
I have been in a store but I didn't buy anything. The guy clerk was kind of creepy. I prefer to buy online.
06/14/2011
I was pretty turned on. xD The lady who was telling me all about it was cute. I wasn't embarrassed because sex is natural to me. ^_^
06/14/2011
Well I haven't gotten the chance to buy something in person because the variety in my town is so not good. I haven't found a store that I can find something i actually like.
Good thing EF is here! I love this place! I was able to buy my first vibrator here.
