Have you ever had a "Silicone" toy fail the flame test? If so, what was it?
Failed the Flame Test?

Nope! But I've never flame tested for actual testing, just for fun on toys I knew would pass

Im too much of a chicken to test em.

I have never heard of "the flame test"!
Bbuuttt if it's what I think it is, I agree with cream in the cupcake... haha

Yep, once with a vibrator and once with a butt plug.

I've never do it. Even though I am confident my silicone toys are really silicone, I just feel wary about putting fire near them.

The Dr. Vibe attachment for the Fairy Mini failed (luckily I had expected it would, so I didn't do a whole lot of damage, just a little bit on the back side.)
The manufacturer didn't actually claim it was silicone, though, so I'm not sure if it really counts as failing... they did fail to claim it was any material in particular, though.

I've never done any flame test on my silicone toys, but ... I have a pair of kitchen thongs with silicone heads, my husband uses it to flip/pick up food from the barbeque grill, it's still good as new after two years of labor.

I've never heard of the 'flame test'.
10/08/2011
Nope, never tried it.

My only toys that are supposed to be silicone are from Fun Factory and Tantus. Those two don't need testing The rest of the soft stuff I have should be TPR and since my coochie isn't burning I believe the companies.

For those that have not heard of flame testing silicone, you take a match and burn the material, if it is 100% Silicone, it will not harm the material. Other materials will melt or deform. Caution should be used though, as ScottA mentions here TPR silicone will catch on fire and is hard to put out.
I find the only reason to do this test is when I plan on sharing a toy with the wife. Since I use it anally and she will use it vaginally, I feel the test is justified but only if I am suspicious of the claimed material. I always do it outside by the fire pit so if it does catch on fire there is no worries.

Yikes, I didn't know that about TPR! Thanks so much for the info!

Hmmm...should we burn toys we don't like - just to see if they are made from faulty materials? Also, I learned something new - I didn't know that TPR was difficult to put out after it has been torched. Of course, I've got several toys that I DON'T want to burn.

I've never burned my toys.
10/09/2011
I've test three toys that way and all three passed the test. I haven't done it on my Vixskin, but I hardly think I would need to. And I have a hard time taking flame to a realistic dildo, it just seems so sadistic. LOL
10/09/2011
There have been so many that haven't passed the flame test that I can't name just one, but most of them were CalExotics silicone toys.
10/09/2011
I'd be scared to do it. Even if my mind knows the difference, my emotions would feel it was wrong to put a flame against a toy I like and plan to use again.
10/10/2011
I've never flame tested a toy. Now I want to.
10/10/2011
I have never tried it. Never even thought about trying it until now.

No, never done the flame test as I buy from reputable companies if I want something that's 100% silicone. Though, I did set a couple of my former Dom's toys on fire when we split up... Made me feel a little better

I'm too chicken to do a test on my toys!
I'd be worried I'd burn myself or the house down...lol. And I'd hate to lose a good toy if it happened to be 'faulty' silicone.
