I think cuffs with padding/fabric as opposed to metal/plastic ones are pretty good.

silky ropes are the best. rope burn is no fun!

I have played with ropes and cuffs and like them both for different reasons. I have not played with silk ties yet though I am interested in doing so.

Cuffs would be my first choice then silk ties. Ropes tend to chafe.

Ropes and leather cuffs for me. Silk ties and handcuffs aren't as versatile, in my experience.

I usually prefer to be restrained without pain, as pain would distract me from the pleasurable sensations going on elsewhere! For that reason I like soft leather or satin cuffs. Once in a while, though, a little pain fits right in with a roleplaying scenario, and something like metal handcuffs or rough ropes is more appropriate.
