Do you remember the first well-written erotica you read as an adult?

Doing sex toy reviewing got me interested. I didn't read much of erotica (at least, priced erotica). I read both print and e-books that I buy online. I rarely buy in person.

I remember posting some stories at like 18 or so, on places like Lusty Library... then discovered this haven of wonderful stories by a man named Jonathan Phillips.... I adore him. I could link his website if you'd like... but I believe the book club should read HIS work. lol

I'm not familiar with him! But I think it's great when an author stays with you...

Sex toys and erotica seem to go together! I kind of drifted to erotica from romance, now I'm moving back toward romance and blending the two!

Hmmm, I'm not sure. I suppose that Spanish Harlequin Deseo (Desire series) would count among that, but for a collection of erotic novels, I have the French version of the Stories to Make You Blush by Marie Gray. Blushing might be a good word here, because they're mostly romantic and not that erotic.

Oh and one of the coolest and erotic book I've read in a while is 'Suddenly You' by Lisa Kleyplas. Definitely recommended. It's like a chick lit, mixed with LOTS of sex and romance.

Foreign erotica! I love it! I just found out one of the anthologies I contributed to has been published in Germany. I can't read German, but it's nice to know!

That was me shaking my head. But because my eReader wouldn't cooperate. I was so sad cuz I had just shelled out good money for a few books to take with me on vacation with my fiance's family, and then I couldn't.

I've never liked romance much. It's a good story, but unfortunately, the sex is usually just too softcore for me. But erotica can have a hot story *and* has a good story.

I've learned English by reading a lot, especially by starting with book like Harlequin. They're easy to read and stay pretty much near day to day activities and conversations. That's why I read in Spanish lately, but I moved on to more evolved novels now. Harlequin is definitely not rich literature.

I think my first real taste for written smut came from, believe it or not, online chat rooms and the old alt.stories.porn type boards in the early to mid 90's.

I managed to find a role play chat room where there were a few select people who would literally write out an interactive erotic scene on the fly...

Don't get me wrong, there was plenty of really awful roleplay, but there were a few people with genuine talent that were a pleasure to read and occasionally interact with.

So I guess you can say that my love of erotica and where I found it was born from the days when the internet was almost entirely words—few photos, no voice, no video...

Once voice chat and video came into being, this kind of live interactive erotic writing all but disappeared. I still has a sad.

The sex parts are very erotic and varied. I've rarely seen an historical romance with frequent erotic sex scenes that even include fruits and anal sex (not together).

Erotic romance blends both quite nicely, I think. My forthcoming anthology Dream Lover has 17 stories that are both romantic and erotic-- and some are downright dirty.

One of my favorite eroticas had a guy plucking grapes into a woman's vagina and making her hold her legs wide open and the description of juices dripping out... at 16 I almost fainted.. LOL

But, let me tell you at 23... I bought that book again and it's still hot.

What's the difference between roleplaying and cybersex?

Most of the romance novel sex I find too soft core for my taste too, with the exception of the dominant male, dominant female who ends up submitting to the male sort of stories...

Anything in line with my favorite Shakespeare: Taming of the Shrew

I remember alt.sex.stories (I think?). And yes, there was a lot of bad writing, but some very talented authors among the mix. I like to think some of them are getting published today!

All cybersex is generally roleplay, but not all roleplay is cybersex.

I had only seen the film with Elisabeth Taylor (loved it), but I never read the actual play (I have to). I doubt it was erotic though...

This is very similar to how it started for me. I was in middle school at the time, and chat rooms and sexy stories were as close as I could get to XXX. I read everything. I quickly came across the Sleeping Beauty trilogy, and ...well, that was the end of everything, really. A very dirty mind was born.

Yeah, I haven't roleplayed in ages. It did seem to die. Livejournal still has a lot of RP communities though.
