Pads and tampons are absolutely horrible in comparison. Seriously. If I have to wear a pad here and there, it feels so filthy and I have to take a shower after now.
Mooncup/Divacup/The Keeper: Have you used it, do you love it, would you try it?

I have the silicone "softcup" because the lunacup was too deep for me and would almost stick out of my vagina. I used the disposable softcups for a few months before getting the silicone one and let me tell ya the silicone one is wayyyy softer and easier to insert. It's gory to take out, sure...but if you can get over that it's very convienient. I only have to empty it once a day and I can't feel it at all and I CAN WEAR IT DURING SEX and my boyfriend says he can't feel it. Plus it's nice to not have to make that trip to the tampon isle every month. And tampons leaked for me. I'd rather deal with one mess during removal of the softcup while I'm in the bathroom and can wash my hands than have to deal with the mess that comes with a tampon leaking at work or something.

I love my mooncup I have a heavy flow. I used to use super absorbent tampons with pads, and I'd still have to change out tampons every 2 hours. Now I just wear a thin pantiliner, and empty out my cup every 3-4 hours, which is a big improvement.

I looked into it, haven't decided yet.

for those who don't know, the mooncup is a silicone bell-shaped 'cup' folded and inserted vaginally that needs emptying from 0 -4 times a day during your period depending on your flow. it gets rinsed out with hot water and reinserted. it is AMAZING.
next to NO environmental impact (except what it took to create it) and you can reuse it for up to ten years. mine has revolutionized periods for me, as my periods are on the lighter side, and i only have to deal with it (empty it) about 4 times during my cycle.
no dryness due to tampons, sitting in bacteria as with pads, or inserting chemicals into your body (cotton is THE most pesticide-ridden crop and you wear it in your most absorbant orifice).
i absolutely love mine. wanted to spread the word about it (since it is still widely unknown) and get feedback from real users.

I love my DivaCup. I still have to use pads because I'll break suction once in a great while cuz I'm a VERY heavy bleeder, but it actually feels a little empowering to take control of my period. I plan on making washable, reusable cotton pads eventually.

I love my Mooncup!
I've had it for about 1.5 years, and it's so incredible. I've been experimenting with Implanon, which means that I've had periods of 14-20 days (ugh). Without it, I think I would've spent a huge amount of money on tampons. It's really a blessing.
I haven't tried different types, because the Mooncup has been perfect. It's not as large as some of the others, but I have no problem making a seal and it only took me a little while to adjust.

I use the disposable ones & absolutely love them--I'll never, ever go back to pads or tampons.

I have a lunette and I love it.

I have been looking into them and recently switched to the softcup. I'm still unsure at this point.

I've been using my divacup for years and I can't imagine switching back to tampons. I've always had relatively light periods, and even the small tampons were painful to remove (abrasive!). The only problem is when you have to use public restrooms for 12+ hours, because cleaning it out and reinserting it can be annoying. I carry a reusable water bottle into the stall with me, though, and it's fine.
oh, also be careful if you're drunk, because there is potential for lots of mess if you're clumsy or you encounter a water faucet with pressure like a firehose! I've had a couple laughable moments here and there, but I always clean up after myself.
I am considering getting an IUD, and I'm a little worried about having to give up my divacup so I don't accidentally dislodge the IUD. The opinions about whether it is OK to use both is mixed, but I think ultimately you just have to be careful (which is what my doctor said, though she had never heard of the divacup before). So, we'll see. It's a tough trade-off! less

Second, I don't see how a menstrual cup could possibly interfere with an IUD. Unless things have changed drastically, an IUD is placed inside your uterus, while a menstrual cup is in your vagina. There is no way for the cup to get through your cervix and into your uterus--otherwise, your tampons would pose the same risk.

I don't think anyone has mentioned it yet, but I just recently ordered and received my Sckoon Cup, made by Sckoon Organics. I started researching the different types online after seeing the Lily Cup suggested in the March "Eden Should Carry" thread, and this one looked like it would be the most comfortable. It's a very smooth bell shape, all molded in one piece, with a slim, trimmable stem, and comes in a variety of pretty colors--I got the teal-colored one. My period just started, and I'm excited to try it today!

I've heard of them, and I would like to try them! I just haven't taken the plunge yet
04/11/2013
I tried the Divacup and it didn't work for me, but I may not have had it in write. The stem poked me, even when I trimmed it down. I would like to try another product like it though.

I have my Sckoon Cup, size 1, in for the first time today, and I've forgotten I have it in a couple of times! The stem is very thin and flexible, which I think is why I don't feel it. I thought I would need to trim it shorter, but it's actually fine as-is. If you still have your Diva, though, I read that you can either cut off the stem, turn the cup inside out, or both.

It's so much easier to plunk down the $35 for a diva cup and call it a day for a couple years than spend $10-$15 bucks a month on tampons.

I have a Diva cup and a Mia cup. I love them both, they are very similar in shape. I only have to clean and change my cup once a day while on my period and then I forget about it and move on. It makes having a period so much easier, cheaper and less of a hassle. I will NEVER go back.

Eucaly is right..... It can take a couple of cycles to get the hang of it. The first period I had I kept checking in the bathroom because I was paranoid that I was going to leak. It takes a few times to figure out if you have the cup positioned properly and if the suction is right.

Many of the brands offer exactly the same model in latex and in silicone, so you can decide which material you want.
Also, try to find a supplier that offers returns. Then you can try, for example, the Diva and if you hate it, you return it and you're only out shipping (they are required to punch holes in all returned ones, so don't worry about getting a used cup - it doesn't happen).
When I bought mine, I believe the trial period was 3 months (it can take two periods to get the hang of putting it in and taking it out; also it is common to feel as if you have the urge to pee all the time for the first week or so you wear it). less

Also keep in mind that with many of the cup styles out their that you can trim down the little area that is supposed to be a pull tab. My Diva cup and Mia both had to be trimmed down for a more comfortable fit.

I did some research into Diva Cups a few months ago and I so want one!!! Only... They are pretty decently priced in my opinion in western countries... here? Astronomical!!!! I do plan on getting on when I can or asking for one as a birthday present.
I figure, "hey, you are going almost all completely natural in everything you put into your body... you idiot you are using bleached cotton and wood pulp each month that so cannot be good for long term."
