I'm currently in college, and I know my roommate's schedule well, so I know when I'll have some alone time! I use my more quiet vibrating toys. I'm also lucky because she's a heavy sleeper, so I am able to use my fingers under the covers while she sleeps.

A loud air conditioner or fan is a great thing to have in a dorm. Not only does it cover up noises from the hall, it will also mask any noises you may be making. I'm in college too, and I had a roommate who frequently skipped class and would come back unexpectedly early. The room's loud air conditioning, my big blanket, and my very quiet toy saved me from a lot of awkward moments.
