I started when I was 13. It happened at summer camp. My mum had already explained how to use tampons, pads, etc but I remember it being really weird to have to go get pads from the camp nurse.

I was 13.

I got mine exactly on my thirteenth birthday.
Guess how thrilled I was about that. At least it happened towards the end of the school day....

I was 16. I was pretty small and I didn't eat much meat (still don't) so maybe that affected it?

I was 10. The first friday of 6th grade in 2000.

I was 11 or 12...I don't even remember the specifics of getting it though so it must not have been a big deal to me at the time.

I was 10 years old and got it during the family's Disney vacation.

Mine started in March 2002, if I'm not mistaken, I was 12, which could be even considered quite early ) Some of my friends had it much later - 14-15.

I'm also from Russia and my experience is different: I got it when I was 13 and I was the last one of my friends. For most of the girls I asked it was 12. Only once did I meet one for whom it was 15.

I wish it hadn't happened until I was 16... but it seems mine (at 14) was still later than most

I was thirteen. I was on a mountain, with a male family friend who was three times my age and had no children of his own. Not a female in sight. I only discovered it because I had to pee while we were hiking a trail.
I was too scared to say anything and I sat on napkins for the two hour trip home. When I finally got home, I told my mom immediately. What does she do? She exclaims "you're a woman", while throwing her hands in the air. HE was standing right beside me.
Ultimately, he turned out to be a sexual predator and my menstruation was a signal he could start 'working me'. It's not a good memory for me. At all.

I was 11 and I felt so happy, hahaha.

I answered for my girlfriend who got it when she was 9.

I got mine pretty late around 14. I remember because I thought I was dying from the cramps/blood. Literally the worst pain in my life.

I was 10 and in 5th grade (at school!). I've been regular ever since.
I had been expecting it. Everybody in my family started fairly early.

I remember getting mine and it sucked lol I was living with my grandparents and my grandmother was really nice about it and gave me a heating pad as I curled up and suffered it while my grandfather told me I was being a sissy and should get over it!

It is believed that as nutrition increases, and some say more hormones from cattle and other animals enter out food system, girls are experiencing menarche (first menstruation) much earlier than in the past. The Victorian woman usually experienced her first "Curse" at about 16, now the average is about 11 or 12. In developing countries, the average is much older than in Post Industrial countries like the USA and most of Europe, Australia and parts of South America.
How old were you, and just for seeing if age has decreased over time, what decade was it?
Please answer ONE age and ONE decade.
Thank you less

Have you talked to a physician? Women are supposed to menstruate. There could be serious hormonal or health issues which are causing this. I'm a nurse, and a girl should have a thorough check up, with hormone tests if she isn't menstruating by the age of 16.

Really. There could be something seriously wrong. I've seen women who don't menstruate, and there is always a medical reason. Most of them effect fertility, sexual health and overall health. It's really something you should have checked out.

I was 11 or 12 and it was the middle of seventh grade. nothing too painful at the time but it was kind of scary because my mom was in michigan at her grampa's funeral when i got it.
03/11/2011
I got my first when I was 11, though I didn't get another for 9 months. However, all of the women in my family got theirs early, so my mom took the time to educate me about what to expect when the time came...though she still called all of our female relatives to tell them the "good news," which was completely humiliating.

I was 11.absolutely horrible

i think i was 10 or 11, in grade 4 or 5 i beleive. I remember because we split the girls and boys up to talk about our reproductive organs in the Fully Alive books in my catholic elementary school. When we were in our groups, the teacher asked wich of us has experienced mestruation yet, only me, and an additonal girl were the only ones.
