Has the Red Cross ever contacted you about your blood donation tests?

I've never been contacted about tests or even giving blood. My boyfriend though, has a "rare" blood type and used to get calls every 3 months or so to ask him for a donation. Sadly, he contracted Mono from contaminated silverware at a restaurant and in the process of that, developed Jaundice. Because there is a chance he got Liver damage, he is unable to donate anymore.

I give pretty regularly, all I get back is the cholesterol test. I think they only contact you if they find you positive for a bloodbourne disease.

I don't even know if I could donate blood, I'm on some meds that I'm pretty sure would make it so I wouldn't be allowed to donate.
If I could though I would. =3

I voted that I've gotten tests back from ARC but technically it was the Canadian Blood Services, but close enough. The first time I donated they sent me a letter telling me my blood was clean and what my blood type was. Every time after that I have not gotten a letter.

I can't donate. They tell me it's because of being bisexual.

That is the dumbest reason I've ever heard of RomanticGoth. Must be like the Chinese who refuse to accept blood from "those mentally ill gay people" (a friend of mine from one of the hospitals was telling me that over drinks). I remember my dad once saying he would refuse blood from anyone that was black.

Funny world we live in!!!

When I lived in Canada, I planned every three months with my mother and my sisters and we made it a day where we would all go and donate blood and then go for lunch afterwards.

When I moved to China in 2002, there were still cases of hospital and clinics reusing needles and such and AIDS was just leaping in numbers. So I stopped. When I returned to Canada I tried to donate again, but they refused saying that because I had lived in China, they cannot take any part of my blood.

Now, even with the new State Laws on hospital staff needing to use single use needles and such, I still don't trust them. I've seen some pretty wild shit here and heard some even worse stories. I get yelled at that I am against China when I say, "My health is MY responsibility" because I should trust the doctors.

That is actually not a factor.

I donate all the time when I can. Lately my iron has not been very good, but I spent just spent my last four years pregnant and breastfeeding, so that would make a difference. I love to give more, but I just ... more
I've been specifically avoiding more tattoos and piercings because of the wait time being a pain for giving blood; I just feel bad.

I imagine the results of these tests are very accurate.
